A message from the principal
Good afternoon! We are finishing our second full week of in person school and six weeks since we started together in August. I want to praise all of our students for the amazing and hard work put forth every day in all learning environment.
As we approach the change of learning environment window next week, please remember you may change your selection for the next 9 week grading period in the parent portal. This change will begin on October 13th. If you want to keep the learning environment the same for your student, you don't need to do a thing in the parent portal. The window for the change is September 28-October 2, 2020. If you are planning on making a change, please email our attendance secretary, Becky Newcomer at becky.newcomer@pisd.edu . We are happy to help with any questions you may have.
Also, this year our school day begins 5 minutes earlier. We begin at 7:40 a.m. instead of 7:45. Please make sure students are in the building ready to learn by 7:40. We know our kiddos love being on time and relaxed as they begin their day. Everything that began at 7:45 last year is now beginning at 7:40 this year.
We are sure looking forward to seeing our School@home students through the drive through today from 3:15-4:30 to pick up their Art and Music Kits.
As always, if you need anything at all, please don't hesitate to reach out. As we've said many times before, we are all right in this together, and we'll help each other out in any way we can. Thank you for keeping our kids safety and learning experience at the center of our learning community!
Take care of yourself and our husky community,
Dr. Jamar
Instructional Environment Selection
The window to revise your chosen instructional environment opens next week, September 28th-October 2nd. Changes may be made through Parent Portal during this window. New choices will be effective at the beginning of the 2nd 9-weeks (October 13, 2020). As a courtesy, we ask that you email the front office if making a learning environment change (becky.newcomer@pisd.edu).
Library Books
Harrington @home students are learning how to reserve library books from the Harrington library. Mrs. Edmondson will contact guardians when books are ready. Guardians will need to come to the Harrington foyer for contactless pickup. This is a completely optional service. If you would prefer your student to not check out physical books from the library e-books are also available.
Pick up times are between 8:00am-2:00pm (not during arrival or dismissal of face2face students)
Arranged by student last name on grade level shelf
Only take the books that have your student’s name
Wear a mask
There is also a library basket in the front foyer to return library books.
Books will be quarantined for 3 days before they are checked in and allowed to be checked out by someone else.

Watch D.O.G.S, Dads
Hello Watch D.O.G.S. dads! Our Watch D.O.G.S program may have been temporarily halted but we teachers know you dads have been working very hard at home helping with your child’s school work. We would like to take time to honor you and the support you have given the students at Harrington. Please help us decorate our Watch D.O.G.S dad bulletin board at school by sending in a photo of your hard work in action at home. Photos may be of you helping your child with work or of just you and your child’s bright smiles. You may send your photo to george.arredondo@pisd.edu. Thank you for all you do!
New System for Online Fee Payments
Plano ISD is using a new online payment system, Rycor. In an effort to reduce time, money and paper waste, and during this time of remote instruction, parents can pay their children’s school and lunch fees through a secure online website, StudentQuickPay.com/PISD.
Student Daily Screening for face2face
Share your Gifts! Enter PTA Reflections!
Don’t forget, the National PTA Reflections Art Program for this school has launched! Last year, many of our students were recognized at the district level and beyond for their amazing work. Submissions can be in the form of dance, music, literature, photography, visual arts, or video. All entries will be entered digitally and are due by November 11th.
This year’s theme is “I Matter Because…” and more details can be found on the Harrington PTA website.
Spirit Wear
We have new spirit wear designs this year, in addition to our traditional range of colors and styles. We just might also have a few other surprises in store (looking at you, tie-dye enthusiasts…), so go check out the Harrington Elementary store on SpiritWorx and find a few (or dozen) items that you love most - long and short sleeves, v-necks, hoodies, sweatshirts, and even blankets.
Purchase now through September 27th! Best of all, your items will be delivered by October 6th.
Many Ways to Keep Our Students Engaged!
The local Plano chapter of iCode will be launching a virtual afterschool program for Harrington students, beginning this October. It will take place weekly on Tuesdays and Thursdays and tuition will be $130/month. Students will learn coding, graphic design, and collaborate with their peers. You can find more information on iCode Plano’s website or by calling them at 972-665-3888.
How Can We Support Your Local Business?
We’re currently looking at new and different methods for supporting our entire Husky Pack, and this could include creating a directory of local businesses run by our families on the Harrington PTA website. We’re currently gauging interest, and if you would be interested in creating a free listing could you email our VP of Communications, Lester Clowes, and let us know?
