Update on RA Action Plan
I wanted to share a quick update on my first steps in my Racial Awareness Work. I experienced a wide range of emotions as I embarked on my work. Use this link to see my 1st update.
Superintendent Staff Retreat
We hosted our annual Superintendent Staff Retreat this week at Decatur High School. The focus was to help our school and district leaders to see the connection between their school and department improvement plans with the overall District Improvement Plan and how CSD will ensure equitable outcomes for all students. For me, the highlight of this event was hearing from two DHS graduates, Julian and Koan, who shared the K-12 student perspective with school and district leaders. The power of their words is essential so school and district leaders understand how our decisions directly impact our students.

Launchpad for Learning
Launchpad for Learning Summer Camp is an exciting opportunity for students to be introduced to upcoming grade-level standards with hands-on activities. The summer camp environment will also help students connect to their school by learning building-specific chants and procedures. It’s not too late to sign up for the Launchpad for Learning Summer Camp! If you are interested in registering your child, complete one of the registration forms below for each child you plan to register. The cost is $115 per student. There are also scholarships available.
More About Launchpad
This innovative program is designed to give kids an opportunity for a camp-style, enrichment program that will help launch them successfully into their new grade. It is not summer school but summer camp. The Monday-Thursday half-day camp will cover important topics for each grade: content overview, team building, leadership skills, school community building, school culture, and executive functioning skills to make navigating school easier!
What if I've already registered my student?
If you have already registered your students, congratulations! We will be sending more information (payment information, daily schedule, scholarship info, etc.) today, June 11th.
CSD POC Connection Sessions
Please join us as we meet the people who make CSD work, learn more about who they are, and discuss issues relevant to CSD's POC community.
Connection Sessions are conversations between the POC community, CSD's Equity Coordinator, and various invited guests, in which we discuss thoughts, interests, and concerns regarding City Schools of Decatur. Each session uses a racial equity lens - always asking the question, "What does race have to do with this?"
Job(s) Well Done
A huge shout out to the administrative team at Decatur High School for hosting an amazing graduation ceremony.
