A Great Start!
We are very excited about the start of the 2022-2023 school year! We spent the first few days of school going through "Tiger School" with all students to discuss expectations and some new things that will be happening this year.
Our focus this year at BRHS is on getting Everybody, Every Day to commit to working together to achieve our goals. We want our school to be a place where students feel welcome, can learn and grow, and have a place to belong. We want to give our students the trust that they deserve and reward them for their good behavior, good grades, and good attendance. We want to grow and empower leaders in all areas of our school. We want to create opportunities for our students to connect with a group. We want to expose our students to opportunities beyond the walls of the school that will prepare them for college, a trade, the workforce, and/or the military.
One new initiative this year is our Tiger Trust Card. The Tiger Trust Card is designed to reward deserving students with more freedom while also maintaining the ability to hold students accountable for their decisions and behavior. Each student started the year with a Tiger Trust Card, which gives them access to privileges and special events while on campus. In order to retain their Trust Card, students must maintain good grades, good attendance, good behavior, and contribute to the campus through activities and clubs. Trust Card status will be reviewed every 3 weeks. The benefits associated with Trust Cards include:
- Courtyard, collaboration space, & library access during lunch
- Special event access (with teacher approval)
- Hat pass on Fridays
- Juniors and Seniors must have Trust Card AND CCMR point to have off-campus lunch access
Our teachers are hard at work inside the classroom to help their students learn and grow. We have several new teachers and new course offerings this year that are going to greatly benefit our students. Be sure to check out our "Academic Spotlight" further down the page each month to learn more about what is happening in our classrooms.
Outside the classroom, fall is all about football, volleyball, marching band, cheer, cross country, and FFA Leadership Development Events. For more information about each of these programs, please see the links below.

Counselor's Corner
Hello BRHS Families!
Welcome to the 2022-2023 School year! I am so excited to see everyone back on campus. The Counseling department has been very busy this summer making sure that student schedules were complete and ready to go, and that students are on track with graduation credits and requirements. We are excited to have several different events planned for this semester. Please see the attached flyers for both the upcoming PSAT test for sophomores and juniors, and our upcoming SAT School Day for seniors.
For the Class of 2023 and their parents, it is important to share information regarding FAFSA completion as a graduation requirement. We have attached information on this very important issue, and will also be mailing home this letter to all senior students and their parents with the address we have on file. To assist with this requirement, BRHS has planned two FAFSA nights in the coming months. See attached flyer for details on dates and times. We are happy to navigate this requirement with you to ensure this requirement is met on time, and with as little stress as possible!
We also have a new Collin College Counselor on campus on Mondays and Tuesdays. Mrs. Kristin Lee is available to help students with dual credit and college and career questions. Her email is kristinlee@collin.edu.
Please check out the wealth of information attached in this newsletter to assist your student in the months ahead.
I am looking forward to a great year with our family here at BRHS!

Science Classes
Mrs. Sawatsky's chemistry students learned the importance of lab safety and proper PPE during an experiment with several liquids, including nitric acid. They also got to see what could happen if you didn't wear goggles and got a chemical in your eyes through a demonstration with a cow's eye.
Coach Christenson's biology students were testing for the presence of macromolecules in the lab. Those students look ready to take on the medical field!
Mrs. Stoup's forensics students had the chance to take on their first crime scene investigation. Students are looking for evidence and clues to help them solve an important crime.
