Tim Berners-Lee

Tim Berners-Lee is the inventor of the World Wide Web. He is an English computer scientist. He introduced the proposal of the world wide web in 1989 and it was first used for internet communications in 1990 and released to the public in 1994. Berners-Lee grew up in London and studied physics at Oxford University to become a software engineer.

As well as designing the world wide web, he also made the first web page. The weblink for this page is The amazing thing that Tim Berners-Lee did was that he gave his invention away for free.

Alan Turing

Alan Turing was an English mathematician and computer scientist born in 1912. He invented the computer. He played a key part in the war decoding German messages and he designed a machine to successfully discode the messages.

After his success in the war he decided to start making a machine to process information logically. His lab in the National Physical Laboratory weren't the first to make a digital computer because his idea was dismissed by his colleagues.

He then went to work in Manchester Universtity where he became the director of the computer laboratory and everyone there started working on the new product that would display and read information artificially.

Alan Turing was homosexual and for this he was tried and arrested. In his time this was a criminal offence.
