Thoughts From Third Grade

An update of what's going on in Miss Stitch's class!

Math Test Next Friday

This week, we continued with Unit 1 in math. We worked more on elapsed time and introduced multiplication and division strategies. We will finish up Unit 1 next week, and have our first math test on Friday. I sent home a blue paper with all of the topics that will be covered on the test. Next week, I will have the kids bring home their math book everyday to help them study. We will also have a review day on Thursday. The ConnectED website is also a great tool for your child to use to help them practice. Their username and password can be found on their password sheet in their binder.

Choose Kind

As we read Wonder this week, our main character, August, overheard his best friend talking bad about him behind his back. We talked about how we think he felt when he heard that, and how we think his friend felt after he said those mean things. They realized that his friend probably felt bad about what he said too. One of the girls in our class reminded us of something Kid President said, "If you can't say something nice, then you aren't thinking hard enough". I was so proud of her for remembering those words!

Curriculum Night

Curriculum Night is this Thursday, September 10 at 5 pm. It will start in the gym with Dr. Dickens and Mrs. DuPree. We will then have 2 sessions in our classrooms so that you have time to visit 2 different teachers if you need to. I will discuss the third grade curriculum as well as take a look at some of the online resources available this year. I hope to see you all there!

Parent Volunteers

This week we will be starting reading groups and beginning unit 1 in our new Benchmark Literacy program. Now that our schedule and routine are set, we are ready to welcome in parent volunteers. If you are interested, let me know when you are available and we can set up a schedule. Thank you!
