Assessments for Entry into Mastery Connect
Each grade level should have 1 Summative Performance Task entered into Mastery Connect for first semester. With our current pacing guides, 5th grade should be last grade level finishing their performance task prior to break. Two grade levels have assessments in January:
Third Grade: Topic 8 Performance Task (1/8-1/14)
Fourth Grade: Topic 10 Performance Task (1/22-1/29)
Grades K-2 will have one Summative Performance Task for entry in MC during 2nd semester. Grades 3-5 will have two Summative Performance Tasks for entry in MC during 2nd semester. What's one way to handle incorrect answers in number talks? (video example)
What's a teacher to do? A student finally feels comfortable and safe enough in your classroom to share his thinking. However, when he does, it's a strategy laced with misconceptions. You're unsure of your next teacher move. If that student feels embarrassed after interacting with you, he may feel "math injured" and refuse to participate in the future. On the other hand, you want to make it clear that there's something you don't understand about his thinking. This article and video may help.
