A Message From Our Administration

We are so excited to have the students back after the summer break. The smile on each face on the first day is one to treasure! I hope you took time during the summer to rest, relax, and enjoy some quality family time. Summer break has ended, and we are now ready to gear up for a new school year. We have completed the first few weeks of school and rigorous instruction is happening throughout the building. We are Making Waves at Bakerfield Elementary! We work hard to prepare your children to be the best students they can be.

There are several new staff members that we need to welcome.

Ms. Cait McComas– 5th grade

Mrs. Monica Graham- Community Support Specialist

Ms. Valerie Krisa- School Social Worker

Mr. Drew Kessler- PE

We are so excited to have them as part of our Bakerfield family! We are also excited to welcome many new students to our family.

Back to School Night

Our Back-to-School Night was held on September 2. Families were able to see the classrooms and meet their teacher before the start of the year. Additionally, we held a virtual event where teachers reviewed expectations for the school year. If you were not able to attend, please reach out to your teachers to get the information you missed. You can also watch the video below for updates from the administration. The night was a huge success! Thank you to all the families that attended the night. We appreciate your support and look forward to a successful school year!

We Are Here For You!

If you need additional resources, have questions about the school year or your child, below are are list of people who are ready and available to help at Bakerfield!

Arrival and Dismissal

Arrival and Dismissal:

We have over 100 cars in the car rider line up each day. We know that many are frustrated with the wait time, but our procedures are in place because we need to keep all students safe. To guarantee safety, car riders must be picked up and dropped off from a car in the car rider line every day. We will not allow adults to walk up to the building and grab students from the car rider line. We encourage families to consider Harford County Public Schools transportation as a possible option for transportation.

Drop Off:

To decrease the wait time and help move cars through the line faster during drop off:

  • Have your child ready to go when you pull up to the building
  • Students need to have their mask on before you stop the car
  • Students need their backpack and lunch box in their lap.

We ask that parents do not get out of the car.

  • If your child requires assistance or you need to get out of the car for anything, please pull into one of the 4 handicap spots just past our drop off location. This will allow the line to continue to move without delays and you can provide your child the assistance they may need.

Pick Up:

To decrease the wait time and help move cars through the line faster during pick up:

  • Students get into the car independently.

We ask that parents do not get out of the car.

  • If your child requires additional support with seatbelts or material management, we ask that you pull into one of the four handicap spots to provide your child with the assistance they may need.

Our goal is to help make this process as smooth and quick as possible. To do this, we need your support. One car can have a huge impact on the entire line. Please be considerate and respectful of other cars and people. Everyone’s time is valuable, and every student is important. Please follow the suggested guidelines to help us keep our lines moving and students safe.

State Testing Resources

Students in grades 4 and 5 will participate in MCAP testing at the beginning of October. For information on state testing, content standards and grade level expectations, visit our school website. Each grade level has links to documents outlining what skills your child will learn this year and what your child will need to know to be successful.

September's Core Value- Initiative

This month's core value is initiative. Throughout the month of September, we will talk with students about how to take initiative, seeing what needs to be done and doing it. The resources and links below are ways that you can teach your child about initiative at home!
