According to the Mathematical Association of America, the AMC 8 test is a timed problem-solving assessment that requires students to answer strategic and analytical math questions. Nearly 70 of our scholars participated in this effort. Our students did wonderfully, and four took home the top prizes of first, second, and third. News From Lightridge High School
Dr. Hitchman, the principal of Lightridge High School, would like to wish all future Lightridge families a wonderful start to the new year. As we move through the winter and spring, Lightridge will be hosting several events and activities. Lightridge will also begin posting their newsletter, the Lightning Bolt, to their school website beginning on Friday, January 17.
The Lightning Bolt will contain information regarding upcoming events, activities, staffing, and other exciting news. We encourage all future Lightridge families to view the Lightridge website on a regular basis to remain current on new events and happenings.
In more exciting news, on Wednesday, January 15, Lightridge will be hosting a Meet the Coach event in Willard's library. Come meet Mr. Bobby Eavenson, Lightridge's Head Football Coach, at 6:30 p.m. at Willard Intermediate School. All future Lightning players and parents are welcome to attend.
Also, on Friday, January 17, the January Principal Coffee and Chat will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at the Starbucks located inside the Stone Springs Harris Teeter. Dr. Hitchman will be available to discuss the progress of Lightridge and answer any questions.

Inclement Weather Announcements
Given that the winter season is in full swing, please note that Loudoun County Public Schools (LCPS) shares information regarding closures and delays via the Blackboard Mass Notification messaging system and ParentVUE. Typically, notification is sent early in the morning, by 6:00 a.m., or at night, prior to 10:00 p.m. For more information, click here.
Tardy Reminders
In 2019, we noticed that students needed additional support in arriving to school and class on time. As a reminder, our school day begins promptly at 8:50 a.m. If students arrive after this time, they will be marked tardy. In addition, students have five minutes between classes in order to allow for them to arrive early to class. Please encourage your child to be on time for classes, so great learning can begin promptly.

Transportation Reminders
Students arrive at Willard in a variety of ways, as a reminder, please review our transportation procedures.
Kiss & Ride: When picking up and/or dropping off students, please enter Willard's parking lot via the Braddock Road entrance. Once in the parking lot, please follow the cones and directional signs to the front of the building. Please pull forward to the crosswalk in the front of the building to allow us to accommodate as many parents and students as possible. After dropping off or picking up your child, please turn right at the stop sign and exit Willard via Wheatgrass Dr. to Grassland Grove Dr. For a detailed diagram of the Willard Kiss and Ride procedures, please use this map. Please account for traffic in your drop-off process, as students arriving after 8:50 a.m. will be marked unexcused tardy.
Walkers: We have a crossing guard stationed at the Braddock Road crosswalk from 8:20 a.m. to 8:55 a.m. and from 3:30 p.m. to 4:05 p.m. Students should follow her direction when safely crossing the street.
Bus Riders: Given the high number of bus riders, students need to ride their assigned bus both before and after school. Please note the following:
- Students who regularly travel to Champe for athletic practices, play rehearsal, or other regularly scheduled school activities have been issued a permanent pass for the Champe Shuttle.
- Parents should give students permission to occasionally ride the shuttle bus or leave for pick up on the first bell by filling out this form.
