One of the ways to qualify for the bilingual awards as a senior is to take and pass a GUSD Bilingual Competency Exam, which will be given on Saturday, January 29 in Russian, Korean, and Spanish, and on Saturday, February 5 in Arabic, Armenian, and Tagalog. If you need the exam to qualify for the awards, you must register for the exams by January 14, 2022, using this link: BCE 21-22 Registration

THE HORATIO ALGER ASSOCIATION is now offering its National and State scholarships to current high school JUNIORS. The scholarship seeks students who exhibit academic potential, determination in overcoming adversity and who aspire to pursue a bachelor's degree upon graduating high school. Interested students must have a min. 2.0 GPA, be US citizen, be involved in co-curricular and community service activities and demonstrate critical financial need. CVHS VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: Please check out several opportunities for parents to get involved and volunteer at Crescenta Valley High School. There are lots of volunteering positions throughout the year. Remember all volunteers must be vaccinated or provide a negative Covid 19 test within 48 hours of volunteering and masks must be worn. If you are interested please fill out the VOLUNTEER FORM and follow the instructions on returning it.

REGISTER TO VOTE: Make your voice heard on important issues that affect the future of our state and nation by registering to vote today. SCHOLASTIC BOWL TEAM: The Scholastic Bowl Team will be holding tryouts soon. If you are interested in competing for a spot on CV’s academic decathlon team, please sign up in Room 5310. Tryouts will be at lunch time on various days.

CV AUTOMOTIVE: At CV we have a brand new automotive club where car enthusiasts can come together and talk about cars. We’ll be mostly discussing how a car is put into production ranging from the invention and design to the engineering and manufacturing processes. In addition to that, we’ll also watch popular races and play car trivia games. We’re open to member suggestions on what else we should discuss during the year. CURRENT JUNIORS: Female students interested in government and current events and who show strong leadership abilities should consider applying to Girls State. The week-long summer program sponsored by American Legion Auxiliary will be in June 2022. Selected students learn about the political process by electing officials for all levels of state government and actively running a mock government. Jackie Robinson Foundation – provides scholarships to disadvantaged minority high school students with plans to attend an accredited 4-year college in the fall. Eligible students must show a record of academic excellence, leadership potential and community service and present evidence of financial need. Apply online at and deadline is Jan. 12, 2022

Mensa Foundation - is offering several $2500 scholarships to graduating seniors. Applicants must be attending an accredited educational institution in the fall. Judging is also based on content of student essay. Apply online at and deadline is Jan. 15, 2022

National Washington Crossing Foundation is offering a variety of national and regional college scholarships ranging from $500 - $5000. Awards open to graduating high school seniors entering college in the fall. Students must write a one-page essay stating why he or she plans a career in government service. Asian & Pacific Islander American (APIA) Scholarship Fund – is a program dedicated to providing underserved APIA students funds to support them in their undergraduate education. Min. requirements include – students of Asian and/or Pacific Islander ethnicity, US citizen, enrolling as an undergraduate student in the fall of 2022 and have a min. 2.7 GPA. California Teachers Association (CTA) – has several scholarship opportunities available to dependents of active or retired members of CTA. Applications are rated by a point system. Union Plus Scholarships – offers awards from $500-$4000 to current or retired members of participating unions, their spouses and dependent children. This is a competitive scholarship and applicants are evaluated on academic ability, social awareness, and financial need. Senior must have a min. 3.0 GPA and can be attending either 2-yr/4-yr college or trade/technical school in fall 2022. Apply at and deadline is Jan. 31, 2022

Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) - awards several scholarships with varied requirements. General criteria - students must be US citizen and plan to attend an accredited US college/university in the fall. Most of the awards do not require DAR chapter sponsorship. The National Eagle Scout Association - is proud to offer scholarships that can help those who have attained the rank of Eagle Scout to continue your educational adventure. Eagle Scouts may apply for NESA scholarships beginning in their senior year of high school. Candidates must be attending a four-year college or university/vocational trade school, or other approved program. Awardee must maintain a GPA that places you in the upper third of your class. Microsoft Scholarship Program – offering scholarships up to $25,000 to graduating high school seniors attending a college/university in fall 2022 and studying computer science, computer engineering, or a related technical discipline. A majority of the scholarships will be awarded to females, underrepresented minorities and students with disabilities. California State PTA Graduating Senior scholarships - are open to graduating high school seniors to

Elks National Foundation Elks National Foundation Legacy Awards apply online at

Legacy Awards are $4,000 scholarships available to children and grandchildren of Elks members. The Elk must also be a paid-up member through March 31, 2022. The applicant must be a high school senior. Deadline to apply is Feb. 7, 2022

Scholars Helping Collars Scholarship - Seniors from across the U.S. are invited to apply for P.L.A.Y.’s annual $1500 scholarship. This scholarship rewards one student who can tell the best story, describing the impact he or she made in the life of a rescue animal or animal welfare cause in general. KnowBe4, Inc. - is awarding a $10,000 scholarship to a graduating female student planning to pursue a degree with a focus on cybersecurity, information assurance or similar field. California School Employees Association (CSEA) - is again offering $1000 scholarships to dependent children and spouses of CSEA members. Sons of Italy Western Foundation – announces the availability of scholarships for graduating seniors in the Class of 2022. Scholarships available in several categories – Academic, Athletic & Italian language grants. Students must be wholly or partially of Italian descent and enrolling in an accredited 2-yr/4-yr college/university in the fall. Apply online at Deadline to apply is March 2, 2022

Community Foundation of the Verdugos – manages scholarship funds that were created by local charitable community donors. Be sure to check out the organization’s website to view the different award requirements and to apply. Listed here are the awards available to CV seniors. Application deadline is March 2, 2022.

· Dr. John & Mae Benjamin – scholarship to benefit students pursuing a medical career.

· Christopher A. Burrows Memorial Scholarship – open to seniors graduating from high school in La Canada Flintridge or La Crescenta. Student must demonstrate a high level of academic and extracurricular achievement, strength of character and zest for life.

· 1st Christian Church of Glendale – scholarship seeks to recognize a long-time resident of Glendale and Glendale schools.

· Glendale Latino Association – scholarships are offered to local Latino students who have demonstrated education excellence and extraordinary citizenship.

· Gonzales-Harris Bilingual – scholarships awarded to students graduating from high schools in the Verdugo region who will be attending a 2yr/4-yr college or career/technical school. Students must be US citizens and be fluent in Spanish

· John & Elsie Krikorian – scholarship is awarded to recognize a deserving student who will be pursuing a career in journalism, marketing or business.

· Sambar Scholarship Endowment – scholarship is awarded to graduating high school senior from GUSD high schools who demonstrates financial need.

· Tuesday Afternoon Club – scholarship awarded to senior with demonstrated community service and financial need.

American Postal Workers Union (APWU) - is offering scholarships to graduating seniors attending 2-yr/4-yr college or vocational/technical program in the fall. Applicants must maintain a “B” average, and be a child or grandchild of an active or retired APWU member. Students apply online at and deadline is March 31, 2022

Communications Works of American (CWA) through the Joe Beirne Foundation will be awarding (16) $4000 scholarships to members, children and grandchildren of CWA members. CWA members work in telecommunications and info technology, airline industry, news media, broadcast & cable TV, public service and other fields.
