Principal Message -- October 15, 2020
October is Dyslexia Awareness month, and students have been hearing announcements about dyslexia! Have you ever wondered what it meant? It means that learning to read can be challenging, but with the right support people with dyslexia can become amazing students. They are very smart and want to learn to be great readers! There are some really wonderful things about having dyslexia too! People with dyslexia see patterns and have great spatial knowledge. This can make them great scientists and mathematicians!
There are many creative, super-smart, and famous people who had or have dyslexia! Some names you might recognize are: Albert Einstein (scientist and mathematician), Jennifer Aniston (actress and movie-star), Steven Spielberg (movie producer and director), Tim Tebow (football player), Keira Knightley (actress from the Pirates of the Caribbean movies), and Bill Gates (computer genius). To learn more, please view the video, See dyslexia differently
Storybook Character Dress-up
We are dressing up in a storybook character costume on October 30, and we do not want to miss out on seeing our VLA friends in their costumes. So, we are creating a slide show just for them! If you would like for your child to be in the slide show, please take a picture of him/her in the costume with the book the character is in. This slideshow will be shared with all classes, in person and in VLA, on Friday, October 30.
If you would like to participate, please do the following:
- send the picture to the Yearbook Remind by texting @dragonpic to the number 81010.
- inform us of your child's grade. Submitting your child's name is optional, and only the first name would be posted.
- make sure we can see your child's sweet face instead of a mask.
- have the picture in by Thursday, October 22
Please see changes to Curbside Library Pick-up in the Library Corner.
Enrichment Activities and Lessons are available weekly. Please visit this link https://daultondragons.wixsite.com/enrichment.

Learning Option Transfer -- October 5-21
Those interested in transferring must log in to their Skyward Family Access account to submit the form within that time frame. Specific instructions are available here. The form will close at 11:59 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 21. You do not need to fill out the form if you want to stay in your current learning mode.
Please know that every transfer application will receive an overflow letter explaining that your child is not guaranteed a spot at Daulton or with a Daulton teacher. Should you want to speak to me about this in detail, please don't hesitate to contact me.
PLEASE NOTE: Beginning Nov. 4, all students who have selected in-person instruction will only be counted present when they are physically in class unless they have been quarantined due to COVID-19.
This means that in-person students will no longer be able to turn in assignments by 11:59 p.m. of that day to be counted present. They must be physically present in class to avoid an absence.
Quarantined students will be able to follow current practices to gain attendance for days they are quarantined. Students enrolled in the MISD Virtual Learning Academy will continue to follow their current attendance practices.
View this calendar for all transfer windows and grading periods for the 20-21 school year.
