Region 20 ELAR Quarterly Newsletter

August 2020

Welcome to the 2020-2021 School Year!

The beginning of the school year is an exciting time, as we prepare for the return of students and staff! Though the year will look different, what remains the same is everyone's commitment to support each other as we move forward into remote instruction, hybrid models, and very thoughtful face-to-face learning.

We've included some helpful updates below as well as this year's ELAR sessions that will further support educators in our region. We have modified a number of our sessions to reach you via Zoom as well as through hybrid models that include both synchronous and asynchronous elements.

We look forward to working together this year. Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or need support of any kind.

TEA Updates

  • HB 3 Reading Academies are under way. Use this link to find more information on TEA's website or reach out to our ELAR team with questions.
  • Early childhood reading resources are available through TEA. They offer information on requirements, tool selection guides, and best practices.
  • As it pertains to HB 3906, the agency is working on new item types in preparation for field test items that will be used in the 2021-2022 school year. These new item types will allow students to show their understanding in ways other than through standard multiple choice items.

TCMPC Updates

  • The "new" tag on Kinder - 8th grade documents has been removed since we are now in year two of implementing the new TEKS.
  • 3rd - 5th grade rubrics are posted and the team is beginning to create Kinder - 2nd rubrics.
  • All new High School curriculum is live and no longer in the resources tab.
  • Old HS assessment passages / items have been removed and the team is posting new items one unit at a time.
  • Gap Implementation Tools are available for 1st - 6th grade in the resources tab of TRS.
  • Gap Implementation Statements are available for 7th - 8th grade in the resources tab of TRS.
