NEW CoS for Digital Literacy and Computer Science for grades K-12
On Thursday of last week, the State Board of Education passed the new Course of Study for Digital Literacy and Computer Science for grades K-12 (click on the Digital Literacy & Computer Science tab). Our district will be planning implementation during the 2018-2019 year with full implementation during the 2019-2020 year. The good news is you are doing much of what is outlined already!
There are several recurring standards including: (1) safety, privacy, and security (2) legal and ethical behavior, (3) impact of computing, (4) systems, (5) collaborative research, and (6) digital tools. We will continue to use already known tools and resources which will include but are not limited to Common Sense Education lessons, ISTE Standards, Hour of Code, STEAM/making, AMSTI, and the design process.
The tech coaches are currently in the process of unpacking the standards and building resources for an easy transition in the fall. If you have any ideas, please reach out to your tech coach.
We are also proud of our Hoover representation on the Course of Study Committee: Vinny Chiaramonte, Ashley Waring, and Kelli Lane!

Volunteers from all over the world create, translate, and illustrate the books.
