Busy Week at Broadmoor!
Dear Broadmoor Families,
What a busy week we had! This is a long message, but lots to know as October is a very busy month for us.
Start with Hello week was FANTASTIC! We had so much fun being welcomed by parents, teachers, first responders, LHS student athletes and Dr. Biermann and Mr. Tappan! A very special thank you to all who came! The kids worked all week on the message of social inclusiveness....reaching out to those you see alone and simply starting with hello! One of my favorite activities is the post-it note activity where the kids simply write a note to another in their class complimenting them. Then we fill our front windows with the notes of friendship. I can't wait to get a picture of it tomorrow to share!
It was perfect that we had Jennifer Levinson from Speak Up here to talk to our kids this week as well! She spoke to 3rd, 4th & 5th graders, reminding them that "It's okay to not be okay". She talked with students about brain health and that taking care of your emotions and mental health is as important as taking care of your body even if it isn't as easy to talk about. Jennifer got the students talking about a variety of emotions, times they had experienced them and pointed out that if you feel not okay, you are not the only one who has felt that way. Students had a lot to tell Jennifer when she asked them about tools that they use to help them handle big emotions. Belly breaths, positive self-talk, identifying feelings and asking for help were among the responses students shared that all come from the Second Step curriculum that is taught in classrooms weekly. The hour was wrapped up with a reminder to students that talking to a trusted adult- at home, at school or in the community is important if you are not okay because you matter and we don't want you to be stuck feeling not okay.
We finished the week with 5th grade Band Night. I hated to cancel the tailgate before, but we will hopefully reschedule and we'd like to do one for a soccer game as well! I was so proud of our 5th grade students the entire night. They sat and watched the game, made sure to be where they needed to be at the right time and represented BES very well! Next time they will perform will be Wednesday, October 30th for the Fall Band Concert!
Don't forget this Wednesday at 5pm, Principal Fleming from RES and I will be at the Louisburg Library for "Coffee with Your Princpals" event! The flyer is below and I hope to see you there!
5th grade parents: we have decided to hold our 'Growth and Development' lesson in the fall this year. Please see the message from Nurse Candice below.
It is time to sign-up for parent-teacher conferences. You can find the link under your Skyward account. If you have any problems or questions, please contact your child's teacher or our office.
