WestWood/ SAGE Family Newsletter
October
Welcome!
We have had a wonderful start to the school year! Thank you for all your help preparing your students and helping them to engage in their learning and growth this year. We enjoyed a wonderful week of school spirit for homecoming including a visit from the PLHS students for a homecoming parade.
The first few weeks have been filled with building our classroom and school community to support the learning throughout the year. We are excited to help celebrate all of that hard work at our first all school meeting this week.
Please take a look at the resources and updates included in this newsletter to stay connected with what is happening at WestWood Elementary and SAGE Academy.

Retake Picture Day:
Lifetouch will be at WestWood on Tuesday, October 24th for Picture Retake Day. Once you receive your original picture back and you decide you would like retakes, simply return the original picture packaged back to school on retake day.
If your student was absent on picture day they will have their picture taken on retake day. Also, you can still order pictures at mylifetouch.com using the picture day ID EVTX97Q4H.
New school safety features
Recently Prior Lake-Savage Area Schools partnered with the Department of Homeland Security to conduct assessments at our schools called, “Security at First Entry” or “S.A.F.E.” There were several supportive findings affirming the many safety measures we have in place in our schools.
One recommendation we have implemented from the assessment includes adding an extra layer of security at school entrances. Most main office doors are now locked and are equipped with a doorbell to alert office staff when a visitor is present.
The doorbell is a temporary feature as we work to complete the S.A.F.E. project improvements by ensuring all main entrances have automatically locked exterior and office doors, an intercom system to allow communication for office staff with visitors and an electronic lock-release for office staff use.
In addition, we will continue to use our visitor management system for all visitors requesting access beyond the front office/check-in area.
Thank you for your patience as we work to install these important features for the safety of our students, staff and visitors.

PTC Butter Braid Fundraiser
It's that time of year again! The annual WestWood Butter Braid sale is here! Sale profits from these pastries will help the PTC donate funds back to WestWood to support field trips, our February author/illustrator visit, recess equipment and additional teacher needs. Flyers with more information are coming home today with the oldest/only child at WestWood Elementary.
Similarly to last year, we will accept orders either entered online using the link in the attached flyer or recorded on the paper copy that is coming home with each family.
If you choose to enter sales online please use this link to record your sales and information. Please include a current phone number to be used in case we need to contact you.
https://store.myfundraisingplace.com/RegisterSeller/3c5bc760-56d1-4ae3-bb4c-81a192bcd903
If you choose to use the paper form, you will write all of your orders on the order form, filling out item quantities and amount due. You will then place ALL money into the fundraiser collection envelope. It is very important that you put the same name on the order form and the collection envelope. Envelopes should be sealed with money and order forms inside the envelope before being brought to school. Please also include a valid phone number on both items so we can contact you if we have questions.
The WestWood Butter Braid sale will start on Monday, October 2nd and will end on Monday, October 23rd. Pick-up of all Butter Braids will be at WestWood on Thursday, November 9th from 4-6pm. Please mark your calendars NOW for pick up! Braids need to be refrigerated and we do not have space to hold everyone's unclaimed orders.
For questions regarding Butter Braids or to confirm receipt of your paper order form, please email the WestWood PTC at ptcwestwood@gmail.com. Good luck selling to everyone!
