As classes wrapped up this week for winter break, Santa's elves were no doubt wrapping things up as well getting ready for Christmas! The Brickies were busy celebrating SENIORS, hooping it up and pinning it down! Across the board, "the stars were brightly shining" as our student-athletes continued to represent us extremely well with their WORK WORK WORK ETHIC and ATTITUDE. No need to go looking under the tree or in your stocking to find BRICKIE PRIDE this year ... our kids and coaches wear it on their sleeves every night!
Merry Christmas ... TOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO you :)
I don't know about you, but all I want for Christmas ... is BricksCenter!

Wrestling
On Wednesday night, Hobart hosted Andrean in their 3rd NCC contest of the season. The match was also a special night for the Brickies as Hobart fans celebrated 50 YEARS in coaching for Coach Steve Balash! On a night that The Friendly City welcomed back one of its favorite sons into the gym, our boys were simply AMAZING! Hobart won every match ... 13 of the 14 by pin or forfeit ... and sent the 59ers home with an 81-0 defeat!!! That's right ... it was 81-0 - WOW!!!! Coach Balash and his family were in attendance for the first time this winter and it was INCREDIBLE to have him back where he belongs :). All in all, it was a GREAT NIGHT to be a Brickie and Hobart improved to 3-0 in Northwest Crossroads Conference action!
Saturday, the Brickies hosted the annual SUPER DUALS meet. This year's field was the largest in recent memory with 10 teams competing for the coveted title. Hobart actually
entered TWWWOOOOOOOOOOOO teams after Goshen had to withdraw for COVID reasons.
As impressive as our boys were in Wednesday's THRASHING of Andrean, they may have been even more so on Saturday! The Hobart varsity team beat Valparaiso (49-27), Lake Central (46-24), Whiting (78-6) and Chesterton (48-28) to all but secure the title ... and then posted their 2nd shutout of the week in the finale against Culver Military (78-0)!!! 5-0 on the day and the 2021 SUPER DUAL CHAMPIONS!!! Not to be outdone by the varsity, the "Hobart 2" team nearly pulled off the unthinkable ... going 4-1 against area varsity teams!! Our 2nd team defeated Knox, Whiting, Highland and Culver Military before losing their final match of the day against Hammond Morton. Overall, the Brickies were a combined 9-1 on the day and thoroughly DOMINATED some really good wrestling teams!! Like I said, the Brickies were so delightful!!
*Senior Trevor Schammert even claimed his 100th career victory in the dual against Lake Central!! CONGRATULATIONS TREVOR!!
So far, Hobart is 10-1 on the 2021-2022 #BRICKRODE ... including a 3-0 mark in NCC action!
The Brickies will host Munster on Tuesday for an NCC clash with the Mustangs and then travel to Mishawaka for the Al Smith Invitational after Christams. GOOD LUCK BOYS!!

2021 Hobart SUPER DUALS

CONGRATULATIONS TREVOR SCHAMMERT ON 100 WINS!!

Basketball
I'm dreaming ... of a Hobart victory ...and both the girls and boys cagers delivered!
Girls
On Tuesday night, Hobart welcomed the Illiana Christian Lady Vikings to town for a nonconference game. Junior Asia Donald scored 17 1st quarter points and the Lady Brickies built an early 28-8 lead! Over the next 8 minutes, our girls PUT THIS ONE AWAY with some AMAZING D-D-D-DEFENSE and some timely shooting from 3-point range ... sophomores Jesse Neace & Emma Ortiz, junior Bella Sanchez, and Donald all connected from long distance ... and the Lady Brickies took a commanding 46-19 advantage into the locker room! The Lady Vikings never quit, but Hobart cruised in the 2nd half and won an easy one 66-37!! Donald (26 pts) topped the scoring chart for Hobart once again and was joined in double figures by Ortiz (12).
On Saturday night, Hobart hosted Andrean in an NCC SHOWDOWN! Anytime these two schools get together, you know it's going to be fun! The long range shooting touch that Hobart showed off on Tuesday against Illiana continued in Saturday's 1st half against the '9ers as Neace dialed long distance 3 times ... and Ortiz added another ... over the first 16 minutes! Halftime score: Hobart 27, Andrean 21. The '9ers opened the 2nd half on a 19-0 run and all of a sudden there seemed to be a lid on Hobart's basket. Down 40-27 early in the final period, our girls STORMED BACK and got within reach at 42-47!! Unfortunately, Andrean hit their FTs down the stretch and left town with a 53-42 W. Donald netted 22 and Neace scored 12 in the loss.
Hobart is currently 5-7 overall and 0-3 in NCC play. Next up is the Hobart Holiday Hoopfest on Wednesday, 12/29. GOOD LUCK LADIES!!
Boys
Friday night, the Brickies opened Northwest Crossroads Conference play with a road game at Lowell High School. The Red Devils graduated almost everyone from last year's squad, but are always tough in The Pit. Lowell packed their defense inside the arc and dared our boys to shoot from 3 all night. On offense, the Brickies had some trouble finding a rhythm ... hitting just 4 of 20 from downtown, but the Hobart D-D-D-DEFENSE was "LOCK-UP CI-TY" (clap-clap clap-clap-clap) against the Devils and held the hosts to just 38 points on the night! The STELLAR defense was enough to help deliver a "W" for the Brickies as our boys hit FTs in the final minutes to put this one on ice!! Senior Jaydon Hence led all scorers with 18 points and classmate Miki Djankovich joined him in double-figures with 11. Fellow senior Josh Tejeda also filled the stat sheet with team highs for rebounds (5) and steals(4) to go along with his 6 points.
The Brickies are 3-2 and 1-0 in the NCC. Our boys will be back in action @ Morgan Township next Tuesday and travel to Wheeler on 12/28 for a holiday tournament ... LET'S GO!!

Swimming & Diving
SENIOR NIGHT was celebrated on Monday. No meet was on the schedule ... rather, the Brickies simply got together, recognized an outstanding group of young men & women, and had some fun in the water together! Coach Ken & Coach Katie both ended up in the pool - one on purpose (Coach Katie was diving off the board) and one not so much (Coach Ken was helped into the water by the senior class)
Like Deep River Waterpark, it was SIMPLY SPLASHTASTIC!!
Girls
On Tuesday night, the Lady Brickies hosted another NCC double-dual meet ... this time around the competing teams were perennial powerhouse Munster and a repeat from two weeks ago, the Lowell Red Devils. The Lady Seahorses were stacked and handed our girls their 1st NCC loss of the season, 141-45. Against the Devils, Hobart again reigned supreme and beat Lowell to the touchpads 100-82!!
Junior Daeges Morgan scored a career high on the diving board to place 2nd! Sophomore Zoe Johnston (100 Breast) and the 200 Free Relay team composed Johnston, freshman Brogan McDonald and seniors Brooke Blanchard & Chelsea Chavez also finished 2nd to help our girls earn a split on the night.

Boys
Our boys joined the girls in facing Munster & Lowell on Tuesday night in the HHS Aquatics Center. The Brickies were defeated on the scoreboard by both teams, but showed marked improvement across the pool and swam well!
