3rd Grade Newsletter

December 14th - 18th

1. We would like to invite you to attend your child's holiday party! 3rd grade's party will take place on Friday, December 18th from 11:45 - 12:45.

2. Speeding to Read Turn 2 ends Wednesday, December 15th. This means that we will tally your child's stickers that they have earned for completing books at home and in class and recording them on their log. In order to meet their goal for turn 2, students will need at least 12 stickers. Please encourage your child to read each night and record finished books on their log!

3. 3rd graders have been practicing music from the Nutcracker in preparation for their performance on Tuesday, December 15th at 6pm in the cafeteria! Additional performances will take place during the school day on the morning of Wednesday, December 15th. Please see below for more information.

We are looking forward to another great week at Beck!!

Learning Targets

A Learning Target is the desired goal of each task in which your child will actively be involved. In addition, it engages your child in reflective evaluation of their own performance.

Readers Workshop:

We will continue our exploration of poetry so that we can understand poetic elements and figurative language. I'll know I have it when I can identify the speaker of the poem, whether or not it has imagery (and what types), and whether the poem has rhythm and/or rhyme.

Writers Workshop:

We will use our knowledge of poetry to create our own poems so that we can demonstrate our understand of poetry and its elements. I'll know I have it when I can create various types of poems using proper structure and experiment with figurative language.

Social Studies:

We will explore the concepts of weather, climate, and forces of nature so that we can understand which geographical regions of the United States experience these natural occurrences. I'll know I have it when I can read and answer questions about the climate, plant life, animal life, and natural hazards/disasters in each region of the United States.

Math Workshop:

We will sort different shapes so that we can see the relationship between quadrilaterals. I will know I have it when I correctly identify trapezoids and parallelograms.

*Module 5 test on Tuesday!*

We will analyze rapid changes so that we can identify their causes and effects. I'll know I have it when I can explain what cause rapid changes to Earth and the effects it has.

*Earth Science Summative Assessment Wednesday!*
