We're Baaaacccckkkk!
We are finally settled back in to the routines of school. After having missed three weeks of instruction for winter break and then the wind storm, it was a bit tricky for all of us to get back in the swing of things. Throw in a high count of COVID cases, and we have all been practicing our skills in patience, flexibility, and perseverance. Thank you to our families for continuing to send healthy kids to school regularly, keep us informed when students are unhealthy or need to be out, and help us to stay open!
ALICE Drill on January 31, 2022
We will conduct our second semester ALICE drill on Monday, the 31st. Kids will be focusing on listening to teacher directions, finding a place to hide out of sight from classroom windows, and older students will learn about how to barricade doors, throw objects, and yell as a means of distraction should we have an intruder in the building. Please call the teacher or principal should you have any concerns or questions.
2nd Annual Egg Drop Night!
We will host our second annual Egg Drop Night on Thursday, March 3rd. More information about registration, zoom links, and details will come out next week! Watch backpacks, Facebook, and our website for more information.
Battle of the Books
Our Battle of the Books team will participate in the district-wide competition on Saturday, February 5th. The 3rd and 4th grade team will compete 8:30-1:00 and the 5th grade team will compete 1:30-4:00. The event is held via zoom and all team members should report to school fifteen minutes before the start of their event. Call Mr. Glaser at (907) 352-6106 if you have questions.
Fundraising for Fahn
We are looking for a team of parents and staff to assist in planning a fundraiser for Ms. Fahn. She is currently out of state for medical treatment and we'd love to be able to come together as a community to support her. So far our team is comprised of three staff and one parent - would you like to join us in developing our event? Contact Ms. Watts to join (352-6103 or mary.watts@matsuk12.us)
Valentine's Day Party Guidelines
Classrooms will hold Valentine's Day parties on Monday, February 14, during the last 45 minutes of the instructional day (second grade will do their parties prior to specials). Please watch classroom newsletters for details and specific plans. Some general guidelines to follow:
- If sending snacks or treats, store-bought and packaged food is best. It's helpful to avoid products with nuts.
- If sending valentines for students to share, please include all children in the class.
- If you would like your child to distribute valentines, but are struggling to purchase them, please let your teacher or Ms. Watts know. Valentines will be provided in advance of the day so you can help your child(ren) prepare them for delivery.
- Parents are allowed to visit or volunteer during class parties. Masks and face covering are strongly recommended. Please let your child's teacher know in advance if you will be stopping by.
