Our Concert is April 12!

Performance is one of the Indiana State Music Standards and at Joan Martin each grade level has ONE concert a year. This concert is our "test" for the semester and all students will be receiving a grade for their effort and personal best during the concert. The concert will take on April 12th, at 6:30pm. Please let your child's music teacher know in advance if you have a conflict in schedules so an alternate assignment can be worked out.

Students should wear ‘nice’ dress clothes. Boys- pants such as khakis or dark colors and a polo or button up shirt. Girls- dress pants/ skirts/dresses. If you choose to wear a dress or skirt it must be AT LEAST knee length with shorts, tights, or legging underneath. Please do not wear t-shirts, sweatshirts, jeans, or shirts with writing/logos on them. If you have questions regarding this, please contact Mrs. Amsler.

Grandparents and special friends are invited to at 2:00pm in the Joan Martin Gym. (Doors will open at 1:45) Any student wishing to leave and go home with their grandparent or special friend MUST have a note indicating so prior to the afternoon of the performance.

The evening of the concert, the school doors will open at 6:00. Students should plan on meeting at 6:15 pm in their classrooms. If you arrive prior to 6:15, please supervise your own children in the gym, as the classroom doors will not be open until that time. Please plan on joining us on the evening of April 12th, at 6:30pm for an exciting musical evening.

Learning How to Read Music

Mr. Everybody's Musical Apartment is a silly story that we use to help us learn how to name the notes on the music staff (those five lines and four spaces). We use the initials of the characters to learn the names on the notes. We will resume tests over these notes after we are finished with our concert in April. The week before a test, students will get their own set of flashcards to take home and study as homework.

You can learn more about Mr. Everybody's Musical Apartment by visiting the JM Music Website: http://hobart.schoolwires.com/Page/3190
