Students and Families Engage with Game Night
December 12, 2022 -- There's more to board games than friendly competition and entertainment. Games like Uno, Connect Four, and Dominoes were designed to teach math and literacy skills to players. "Learning takes place more effectively and efficiently if it can be done in a playful way," said Sarah Bowman, Family Ambassador at Northtowne Elementary.

What is School Choice and the Lottery?
Our District’s commitment to School Choice uniquely offers students a variety of high-quality educational options at all levels by giving families a choice on deciding where their children attend school to learn and grow. The School Choice Lottery is widely popular, with nearly 20,000 applications each year.
If your student is considering applying to another school within our the District, the important information below will be helpful.
High School & Middle School Lottery Applications: Accepted via the Parent Portal Wednesday, January 4, 2023 through Tuesday, February 28, 2023. The last date for the acceptance of late lottery applications for students who completed the 2022-23 school year with CCS is August 18, 2023. New students enrolling into Columbus City Schools can submit a lottery application for two weeks after their enrollment date until December 8, 2023.

Looking for Things to Do Over Winter Break?
From our Columbus Metropolitan Library you can check out a Culture Pass for free admission to multiple Columbus museums and cultural events. Free admission available for places such as Franklin Park Conservatory, Columbus Zoo, Columbus Museum of Art, Ballet Met (including Nutcracker!), and Columbus Symphony.
The Karl Road and Northern Lights branches are the branches closest to our school that have these culture passes available for check out.

CCS Winter Reading Challenge
SNOW WHAT FUN - CCS WINTER READING CHALLENGE
The District is partnering with Scholastic to reward students and top schools who read the most books over Winter Break.
Winter Break is right around the corner for Columbus City Schools students, and the holiday season is perfect for enjoying time with family and friends. The two-week break from the classroom is also the perfect time to cozy up with a book, and join K-8 students and families across the CCS in our Snow What Fun! LitPro Reading Challenge.
From December 20 through January 3, elementary and middle school students are invited to log into their Clever dashboards and LiteracyPro to access any one of the thousands of e-books waiting for them. Students who log the most books during the winter reading challenge will win prizes from Scholastic, as well as earn prizes for their school.
In addition to a personalized digital bookshelf, LiteracyPro also gives students access to online activities to enhance their reading experience and get a deeper understanding of their favorite books.

Winter Warming Stations Now Open
Community Shelter Board of Columbus offers warming stations for those in need. All Warming Stations have the ability to contact further resources through Mount Carmel Outreach Program at any time. Other resources include follow‐up on shelter access, crisis assistance, and housing assistance with Street to Housing Outreach Collaborative (SHOC).
