COLLEGE ADMISSIONS TESTS: ACT and SAT
General Information
Please be reminded that it is the responsibility of the student/parent to register for the ACT and SAT tests. The C&A staff can answer questions at any time. Log on to sat.org/register or www.actstudent.org to register.
- The ACT / SAT are college admissions tests & aid institutions in determining a student’s potential for success in college. (Students planning on attending a 2-year or technical college generally do NOT need to take either test.) Colleges/universities in S.C. accept both ACT and/or SAT scores. Students should refer to the admission requirements for each institution they plan to attend.
- If you plan to take the ACT, it is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED you take the writing component at least once. It is not so necessary on subsequent retakes.
- If you are a special needs student and would like to request testing accommodations for the ACT or SAT, it is your responsibility to initiate the process by discussing the procedure with your counselor. The process is very time-consuming (minimum 6 – 8 weeks). Each testing agency (College Board / ACT) has its own application for accommodations.
VERY IMPORTANT! Please make sure that you fill in the school code for River Bluff High School when registering for the ACT/SAT. If you fail to do this, our school will NOT receive your scores. The school testing code is 411292.

HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS SOUGHT FOR NATIONAL YOUTH SCIENCE CAMP
Applications are now being accepted from high school seniors in the class of 2019 to represent South Carolina at the 2019 National Youth Science Camp (NYSCamp). Two students from each state, Washington, D.C, and 8 countries will attend the all-expenses-paid program which is held from June 27 through July 20, 2019. The NYSCamp is a science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) program hosted in the eastern mountains of West Virginia. Students will have an opportunityto conduct research at the nearby Green Bank Observatory and to explore the surrounding Monongahela National Forest through backpacking, mountain biking, caving, rock-climbing, and kayaking. WHO: Any RB student who has a paper due in ANY class, not just English, and would like help.

The A&F Scholarships are available to all high school juniors and seniors as well as all students currently registered in any accredited post secondary institution.
Application Procedure for 2019
To apply for this scholarship you will need to write an essay on the topic below. The essay should be between 500 and 1000 words. Your submissions must be sent to us by email at: scholarships at abbottandfenner.com

Describe your educational career and life goals. Explain your plan for achieving these goals. Include your degree/major, why you selected it, and how this degree/major will help you achieve your goals.
Anne and Ed Pitts Memorial Scholarship Application
Did you attend Anne Pitts Child Development Center for a least two years? If so, this is the scholarship for you!
This Scholarship is available for graduating seniors pursuing a post secondary education who attended Anne Pitts Child Development Center for at least two years. Applicants will be judged on character, sincerity of purpose, achievement, and academics. This is a "one time only" scholarship. The number of applicants will determine the amount of the scholarship.
Deadline is April 1, 2019. Applications should be returned to Mrs. Farrar in the Counseling and Advisement office or mailed to P O Box 2021, Lexington, SC 29071. Click here for an application.
April Lynn Quinton Memorial Scholarship-$1,000
This scholarship was established in loving memory of April Quinton who died from a single car
accident in October 2009. April was a graduate with honors from Lexington High School in
1998 where she served as Wing Commander of the JROTC. She resided in Lexington County
most of her life and considered herself a lifelong resident of Lexington County.
This scholarship is available for a Lexington County School District One high school senior planning to attend a South Carolina college or university and major in Special Education.
Applicants must have a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher and a SAT score of at least 1100 or
an ACT score of 22.
General Rules:
• Applicants will be judged on character, sincerity of purpose, and potential.
• The scholarship is issued “one time only” and is not renewable.
• The winner will be announced at the school’s Award Program.
• The scholarship award will be paid jointly to the student and the institution of higher learning.
•Applications will be accepted from all five high schools with only one scholarship winner

B. Davis Scholarship- $1,000
AWARD VALUE: $1,000
This Scholarship is available to all high school juniors and seniors as well as all students currently registered in any post secondary institution.
- There is no age restriction
- Be sure to include your name and the school you are attending this year and next
- This is not an academic scholarship but we would like to know where you are going to school now and what your future academic plans are.
- Please do not send transcripts or letters of recommendation at this time.
Application Procedure
To apply for this scholarship you will need to write an essay of less than 1000 words on the topic below:
Describe the three characteristics of leadership you value most. Discuss why you believe that these traits are so important and how you feel that they are developed in an individual.

BigSun Scholarship - $500
Please send us a short essay (500 - 1,000 words) answering the following questions:
- How did your participation in sports during your high school years influence you?

Bobby Chapman Junior Golf Foundation Scholarship
The Bobby Chapman Scholarship is to be awarded to a student who is a graduate (or soon to be) of a secondary school in the Southeastern United States and or participated in a prior Bobby Chapman Invitational. The student recipient may or may not be a golfer, accepted as a full time student to an accredited college or university.
The writing prompt for this scholarship is: select one activity with which you were involved as a high school student and explain how this might enhance your college educational experience. You must limit your response to 250 words.

Central Carolina Community Foundation Scholarships
Central Carolina Community Foundation has one general scholarship application. This allows students the opportunity to apply to multiple scholarships with one application. Once students complete the eligibility section of the application, the application will automatically filter which scholarships the student is eligible. Students must then select which of those scholarships they want to apply.

Clemson Club Scholarship- $4,500
Award amount is $4,500. Applications may be picked up from Mrs. Farrar in the Counseling and Advisement office or by clicking here. Incomplete applications will not be considered. Financial information is requested as need may be a deciding factor in awarding the scholarship.
The scholarship committee will review and select semi-finalists. The semi-finalists will be notified of their status by march 22 and scheduled for a personal interview the evening of Monday April 1. All final interviews will be conducted on that date.
Deadline is March 7, 2019.
2019 Denise H. Bedenbaugh Scholarship/Friends of the Lexington Main Library
The 2019 Denise H. Bedenbaugh Scholarship sponsored by the Friends of the Lexington Main Library is now available! See the link below to the Google Doc Form, which we are offering as an alternative to completing a paper form. We will begin accepting applications on January 15, 2019 with the deadline to submit March 31, 2019 at 11:59 pm.

Hispanic Scholarship Funds
DESCRIPTION
The HSF Scholarship is designed to assist students of Hispanic heritage obtain a university degree. Scholarships are available, on a competitive basis, to:
High school seniors
AWARD
Awards are based on merit; amounts range from $500 to $5,000, based on relative need, among the Scholars selected.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
Must be of Hispanic heritage
Minimum of 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale (or equivalent) for high school students
Plan to enroll full-time in an accredited, not-for-profit, four-year university, or graduate school, during the fall of a scholarship cycle (year)
US Citizen, Permanent Legal Resident, DACA or Eligible Non-Citizen (as defined by FAFSA)
Complete FAFSA or state based financial aid application (if applicable)
Caroline E. Holt Nursing Scholarship
A one-time $2,500 award is given to three students who are in financial need and who have been accepted or is currently enrolled in an accredited school of nursing. A letter of acceptance into a nursing program or a transcript stating the applicant is in a nursing program must be included with the application.

Janice M. Scott Memorial Scholarship - $2,500
This scholarship fund is named in honor of Janice Marie Scott. This scholarship fund was established to recognize her involvement with various youth programs and community service activities within the Greater Metropolitan Area of Washington, DC. Janice was one of 125 individuals that perished in the Pentagon on September 11, 2001 when terrorists hijacked and crashed American Airlines Flight 77 into the building of the Pentagon.
Requirements include:
a. US Citizen or permanent resident of US
b. GPA of 3.0/equivalent or higher (out of a 4.0 scale)
c. High School Senior who will matriculate full-time at a US accredited four-year college or university within the fifty states or District of Columbia.
d. Have demonstrated leadership abilities through participating in community services or other extra curricular activities.
e. Combined adjusted income of the parent(s) cannot exceed $50,000.

This scholarship was established in loving memory of Carrie Mayer-Cowan and Benjamin
Mayer. Carrie was a 1994 Honor Graduate of Lexington High School and Benjamin was a
2000 Honor Graduate of Lexington High School.
Who is eligible for this scholarship?
The $1,000.00 scholarship is available for a White Knoll, Gilbert, Pelion or River Bluff High
School graduating senior.
Applicants must have a 3.5 grade point average and an 1150 SAT or 24 ACT.
This scholarship is for a student pursuing a degree in science education or engineering at a four
year college or university in South Carolina.
Lexington District One Office Professionals Scholarship - $1,000
This scholarship is provided by the Lexington District One Educational Office Professionals Organization and will be awarded to a current Lexington School District One student meeting the following qualifications:
-Is a graduating senior who plans to attend an accredited two or four year institution in the fall term following the awarding of the scholarship
-Is pursuing a degree in a Business program (Computer Science, Advertising, Marketing, Accounting, etc.).
-Has maintained a 3.0 GPA in high school
-Is a United States citizen and a resident of South Carolina
-Demonstrates through grades, character, and commitment a potential success as a business professional.

Lexington Woman's Club Anne Pitts Memorial Scholarship-Medical
How to apply: Complete all parts of the application and attach a 200 to 300 word essay stating your career goals and the reasons for choosing your medical field.
Secure two letters of recommendation, one from a teacher/counselor and one from a member of the community. Include a copy of your transcript.

Lewis Nathaniel Simpkins Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship was established in the year of 2016 in loving memory of Lewis Nathaniel Simpkins. Lewis was a beloved son, brother, athletic scholar, and man of valor.
Who is eligible for this scholarship?
1.) The $1000.00 scholarship is available for a graduating senior student that attends either a River Bluff High School or Lexington High School.
2.) Applicants must have a 3.0 grade point average and minimum SAT score of 1100 or 24 ACT.
3.) This scholarship is for students pursuing a degree in mathematical science, technology, or engineering at a two-year or four-year accredited college or university in South Carolina.

The South Carolina Association of Extension Administrative Professionals (SCAEAP)
The South Carolina Association of Extension Administrative Professionals (SCAEAP) offers a $1000 scholarship to students pursuing a career in the secretarial/computer science or business management field. Click here for a link to the application.

The South Carolina Education Association-Retired Educators Scholarship
The annual amount of the scholarship is $1,000. Five hundred ($500) dollars per semester will be paid to a South Carolina four year college or university for the recipient. The scholarship will be awarded for four consecutive years unless the recipient completes graduation requirements early, decides not to pursue a career in education, or fails to maintain a 3.0 grade point average. This scholarship may be used for room, board, tuition and/or books only. If the money is not needed, the funds shall be returned to the SCEA-Retired.
Eligibility:
- The applicant must be a senior graduating from a public high school in South Carolina.
- The applicant must plan to attend an accredited four year college or university within the state of South Carolina as a full time student.
- The applicant must plan for and pursue a career in education.
- The applicant must have maintained a good high school academic record and maintain a 3.0 GPA while attending a South Carolina college or university .
- The applicant must demonstrate leadership abilities.
- The applicant must need financial assistance.

SC Coaches Association of Women's Sports-SCCAWS-Educator/Medical-$1000 each

South Carolina State Fair Scholarship
For over 20 years, the South Carolina State Fair has awarded scholarships to students across the state of South Carolina. On Friday, February 1st, our 2019 scholarship application and eligibility requirements became available on our website at www.scstatefair.org. Students have until March 15th to submit their applications online.
This scholarship is available to any student in South Carolina who is a senior in a public or private high school or home school. This student must be planning to attend a public or private college, university, or technical college in the state of South Carolina.

Touchstone Energy scholarships- Sponsored by Mid Carolina Electric Cooperative
Mid-Carolina Electric Cooperative is offering Touchstone Energy scholarships to high school seniors within its service area. The scholarship is open to any senior attending Lexington Districts 1, 2, 3 and 5; Saluda County Schools; and private schools within those districts. The scholarship is also made available to any in-state student whose primary residence receives electricity from Mid-Carolina Electric.
Seven $3,000 scholarships are given by Mid-Carolina Electric to students in local school districts who are exceptional examples of "The Spirit of Cooperation", a deeply-ingrained value and driving force within the Touchstone Energy brand. Special consideration is given to need, extracurricular activities, community involvement, recommendations and the students’ personal achievements. Since 1990, over 100 scholarships have been awarded to students who fit these criteria, exhibit a positive attitude, and possess a good reputation within their respective communities.

University of the Aftermarket Foundation Scholarships
Thinking about an automotive career? aftermarket career? Good choice! Servicing or supplying parts for vehicle maintenance and repair can be a rewarding career. An automotive scholarship can help pave the way. Scholarships are available for full time students attending a US or Canadian college or ASE/NATEF certified post secondary school for automotive, heavy duty or collision repair technicians. National College Funding Services Scholarship
The amount of the Scholarship is $250 for participating high schools within Lexington Once School District for a 2017-2018 graduating senior.
