Reminder: This Friday, October 30, 2020 is the last day for Grading Period 2. Now is a great time to make sure all assignments are completed and schedule individual office hours with your teachers if you need academic assistance.

LCPA GOALS:
GOAL #1: Latino College Prep Academy (LCPA) will work to ensure equitable access to all students increasing proficiency in ELA and Math content standards. This allows LCPA to increase student graduation rates, A-G completion requirements, and establish a clear pathway for post-secondary achievement.
GOAL #2: Latino College Prep Academy (LCPA) students will have access to rigorous and relevant learning tools & resources taught by highly qualified teachers, a facility that is in good repair, and access to the curriculum in alignment with the Common Core State Standards while addressing the needs of the English Language Learner population.
GOAL #3 Latino College Prep Academy (LCPA) will cultivate a positive and welcoming school culture that promotes student learning in an academically and physically safe environment while maintaining a low suspension rate.

Meet our Eagle Warrior Champion: Ms. Aguilar
She is a very dedicated educator who demonstrates a commitment to her students as well as to the overall school community. Ms. Aguilar teaches AP Government, Government/ Economics, and World History. In addition, she serves as the Union President, the advisor to our Anime Club, and occasionally will help our softball team further develop their skills out on the diamond.

October 29: Understanding Career Paths in Engineering with UC Davis CoE Alumni
This Fall, SWE is hosting a 10 week long mentorship program to support female and non-binary high school seniors who are interested in applying to engineering majors. There will be weekly sessions with UC Davis College of Engineering advisors, faculty, current students, and alumni, as well as smaller group mentorship sessions with current engineering students to help answer questions and provide individualized support. The program will run from September 24th to November 22nd and is open to high school seniors who identify as female or non-binary.

Youth fellows will bring insights and perspective to 1) synthesizing insights, 2) producing storytelling artifacts that illuminate perspectives adult miss, 3) designing & leading experiences for adults, 4) making decisions with adults on how to allocate $1M in funding towards equitable learning innovations

October 23-31 is National Red Ribbon Week, and its theme is “Be Happy, Be Brave, Be Drug Free”!
National Red Ribbon Week is a great opportunity to provide education on drug prevention, and invite conversations with staff, students, and parents about the importance of staying healthy and drug-free.

DOLORES HUERTA is a renowned labor leader, civil rights activist and environmental hero. She is co-founder (with Cesar Chavez) of the National Farmworkers Association, which later became the United Farmworkers (UFW).
LUIS VALDEZ is a renowned playwright, screenwriter, film director, actor, and activist. As founder and artistic director of El Teatro Campesino, he wrote and directed the play and film “Zoot Suit” and the film “La Bamba.”

Hello LCPA Families,

LCPA Student Behavior Expectations for Distance Learning
BE RESPECTFUL
- Choose a distraction-free workspace and be mindful about keeping distractions to a minimum, remembering that everyone can see you.
- Make respectful comments, showing respect for all cultures, opinions, and viewpoints.
- THINK before posting, always using appropriate language in all electronic communications, including, email, social media posts, audio recordings, and/or video conferencing.
- If you would like to speak or answer a question, use the on-line class participation features (e.g., Raise Hand)
- Displaying or sharing material that is hate speech, sexually explicit, or violent will not be tolerated.
- Bullying in any form, including cyber bullying, will not be tolerated.
- Sending discriminatory or harassing digital communications will not be tolerated.
BE RESPONSIBLE
- Just as students are required to be on time and present at school, students are expected to be on time and virtually present via video and audio.
- Have materials ready.
- Use the chat feature to contribute and show engagement.
- Help others who might need assistance.
- Look into the camera (Sit up, Lean in, Ask questions, Nod, Track your teacher).
- Wear appropriate clothing following your school dress code while on video conferencing.
BE SAFE
- Practicing cyber safety includes not making your profile public, not speaking to strangers, not sharing personal information, and not sharing your camera or photos.
- If you would like to use a chat feature, remember that it is public, and a record of the chat can be saved.
- Follow all TFHE Technology Use Guidelines
- Audio or video-recording with any technology (i.e., cellphones, cameras, recorders and/or computer features) is prohibited unless there is prior approval from everyone involved as per California Education Code 51512.
