October 2019 Newsletter

October has been an action packed month for the Global Business Entrepreneurship SCC CAPS associates. Every week the associates went on a site visit and had a guest speaker visit. In addition, associates were engaged each week in client project work and are gearing up for their final deliverable.

Site Visits

Manufacturing Day

Earlier this month the SCC CAPS associates attended the Manufacturing Day event at St. Charles Community College. Manufacturing businesses had open tables around for the associates to explore and ask questions. It showed the students how manufacturing is booming in St. Charles County. The PM class had the opportunity to visit True Manufacturing and learn how a leading refrigeration company is nested right here in St. Charles County.

SCC CAPS AM Cross Stand Networking Event

The associates in the Global Business and Entrepreneurship strand of the SCC CAPS program planned a cross strand networking event. This gave the associates from all strands the opportunity to connect and learn about the exploration of their careers. The networking started in an open format over breakfast tacos and coffee provided by Good News Defiance and Alpha and Omega Coffee.

Later, the associates were called together to hear a keynote from Nina DeAngelo from the O'Fallon Chamber of Commerce about “the dos and don’ts of networking.” After the lesson, the associates broke into groups of 3-4 with one person from each strand for a few rounds of guided questions. After getting to know associates from the different strands, the Technology Solutions and Global Business/Entrepreneurship associates teamed up against the Healthcare strand in friendly competition of some "minute to win it' type games.

Finance 101

In preparation for the Edward Jones site visit in November, the associates needed some background information on finance. To help with this finance 101, business partners from Securus Circle of Advisors and Krilogy Financial stepped in to help.

The associates met with Michael Brown, the Saint Charles branch director and financial advisor at Krilogy Financial. Michael has been helping clients plan for their retirement and other wealth management for more than 20 years. The associates learned about how budgeting is important and how a financial plan is mandatory to be successful

The SCC CAPS associates as well as instructor Dan Tripp had a workshop with Securus Circle of Advisors in Cottleville at the new Public School House event center. They learned about finance, life insurance, budgeting, and retirement. The SCC CAPS associates will benefit through this information in the future while dealing with college debt and other financial needs as well as expenses.
