We will display our finished product in the Media Center. Happy hunting!
GARDEN WALL
The first grade will create a garden wall on the fence using paper milk cartons. We need everyone to bring in an empty 1/2 gallon carton, by Thursday. if you have extra, please send them in too!
THE GREAT KINDNESS CHALLENGE
Next week - January 14 - 18, 2013 - SSF will be participating in the Great Kindness Challenge. The program is sponsored by the Student Council. We will have a week devoted to performing as many acts of kindness as possible on campus. Students will be given a checklist of 50 kind acts, and will do their best to complete the checklist and prove that bullying is weak and kindness is strength.
Our goal is to ignite a culture of kindness at SSF. Students can work independently, in small groups or as a whole class to complete all 50 challenges. The 50 acts are to be accomplished anytime on campus!
The Great Kindness Challenge started as an annual global event hosted by Kids for Peace, a San Diego- based global nonprofit (www.kidsforpeaceglogal.org). For more information, please visit: www.greatkindnesschallenge.org.
VALENTINE'S CARDS
Before you know it Valentine’s Day will be here. We will be having a Valentine’s craft time on Friday, February 12th and some time for the children to exchange Valentines with each other.
Here are a couple guidelines:
-If your child wants to participate, he/she must have a valentine for everyone in the class, not just some of the children.
-Your child must write the names on the outside of each envelope.
-Making valentines cards is a fun craft and the children really enjoy receiving homemade cards better than the store bought ones. So please start making valentine cards with your child. We talked about how to create cards today so your child should have some ideas. (If you already bought them, that’s ok. It’s just a suggestion.)
-It is fine if you would like to attach a little candy treat, that does not contain NUTS, however, because of our focus on heath, a pencil or small toy would be better. (but not required).

LEGOLAND RUN
SATURDAY JANUARY 26th LEGOLAND has a very fun run for kids. Last year, a bunch of 1st graders ran together and I would love to do it again this year. The kids run through Legoland and it's $20 for all ages. They even have a toddler race! Everyone gets a shiny medal at the end!
It’s a great way to get the kids into exercising and they LOVE doing stuff all together.
