The impact of HIV and AIDS
Over three decades have passed since the HIV and AIDS pandemic first came to world attention. Since then, it has had a devastating impact on the lives of individuals, families and communities and, as a consequence, on the social and economic development of countries where there are high numbers of people living with HIV and AIDS.
HOW DO YOU GET HIV OR AIDS?
HIV is found in specific human body fluids. If any of those fluids enter your body, you can become infected with HIV.
Infection
There are many stages in HIV and AIDS. First, which may last about a year, the individual is an asymptomatic carrier, that is He or she may exhibit no symptoms, but can pass on the infection.

- HIV is the infection that causes AIDS.
- HIV has few or no symptoms for up to 10 years or more before symptoms of AIDS develop.
- There is no cure for HIV/AIDS, but treatment is available.
- HIV can be spread during sex play.
- Latex and female condoms offer very good protection against HIV.
