Queer Film Series: The New Black (2014)
Center for Equity & Diversity classroom
The story of how African American communities are grappling with LGBTQ rights issues in light of the marriage equality movement and the fight over civil rights. The film documents activists, families, and clergy on both sides of the campaign to legalize same-sex marriage and examines homophobia in the black community’s institutional pillar – the black church. It also reveals the strategy of some Christian activist groups of exploiting this phenomenon in order to pursue a political agenda that opposes LGBTQ+ rights. Talk back following the film.
Business Succession Planning: Critical Succession Issues
UWO Appleton Executive Education Center
Running and owning a business are hard work. Most business owners find themselves too absorbed in the business to work on the longer term problems like planning for their succession. In this Best Practices event, learn how to begin documenting your family’s success plan. You will leave this session understanding: the business sale and why it belongs in every family’s succession planning; learn why entrepreneurial families may need to sell, but not capitulate; why financial planning is so important in succession planning; roles and responsibilities of your advisory team and how to avoid common mistakes.
