December 2015
What's Happening in the Library...
December is all about the Hour of Code! Mrs. Barker and Ms. Piepenbrink have been working hard to plan exciting activities for the whole week of December 7th-11th: International Hour of Code Week! All week long, classes will be experiencing simple coding apps and playing with robotics tools. It's going to be a blast! On Wednesday, December 9th and Thursday, December 10th, the OU ONE store will be returning to Ike, this time featuring their coding expertise for grades 1-5 to experience!
If you'd like to see some of the cool coding we'll be doing, check out Code.org at home!
News from the Principals
Eisenhower Families,
Greetings! My hope is that everyone was able to relax and recharge with his or her families over the Thanksgiving break. I cannot believe that it is December already! I am sure the next three weeks will fly by just as quickly as the past months.
Construction is moving along. The walls are beautiful and the final touches are being placed in the upcoming weeks. We hope to move into the Phase 1 (5th grade pod) before we return from the winter break. This will give our 5th graders a full semester to enjoy the new renovations.
Below are a few important dates to keep in mind.
November 30th - December 11th - Pennies for Pasta kick off
It is amazing how many families have been affected by cancer in some way or another. “Pennies for Pasta” is Eisenhower’s way of giving back. It is a fundraiser to benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. We will be collecting change over the course of the next two weeks to donate to cancer research. Our goal is $1, 500. This week if your child brings $1, he or she will be able to participate in a dress up week:
Monday - Hat day
Tuesday – Pajama Day
Wednesday – Superhero Day
Thursday – Crazy wear Day
Friday – Pride Day (favorite team clothing)
Next week, students will be able to buy duck tape for a $1 in order to duck tape myself and Mrs. Venk to the wall during lunch on Friday, December 11th. Let’s stick it to cancer! More information should have come home in your Thursday folders last week.
November 30th – GT Council, Affective Support (7:30 PM, ASC)
December 1st – Concert Chorus Winter Program (7:00 PM, IKE gym)
December 2nd – 4th grade Partner Project (Fred Jones Museum)
December 4th – Terrific Kids Assembly (GME, IKE gym)
December 9th & 10th – Digital Learning Days, OU IT visit
December 10th – 4th grade choir program (7:00 PM, IKE gym)
December 11th – Eisenhower PTA Movie Night (6:30 PM, IKE gym)
December 18th – December SHINE assembly (GME, IKE gym)
December 18th – Winter Parties (2:00 PM)
December 18th – End of grading period for 2nd quarter
December 21st – January 4th – Winter break
January 5th – return to school
As we close out 2015, I just want to say thank you to all of the Eisenhower families for the support that has been shown to our staff and myself this past semester. Eisenhower is a great place to be and has a bright future ahead!
