Safety Drills
In order to ensure safety and preparedness, all Illinois schools are required to practice the following drills each year:
- Fire Drill - a total of three with one of them being with the Dunlap Fire Department
- Tornado Drill - one drill
- Lock Down Drill - this is to practice in the event of an intruder. We typically practice with the Peoria County Sheriff's Department.

This program at DHS teaches the students the skills they will need to live as independently as possible and be contributing members of their communities. The cookie business provides an opportunity to practice both vocational and social skills in a real life setting. The proceeds from the sales go towards buying groceries to use for weekly cooking lessons and traveling to different places to learn how to navigate and access the community.
