Retirement Celebration for Judy Bowen, Sarah Galloway and Cindy Gorski

We honored three teachers in our district, who plan to retire at the end of this school year, with a grand celebration in our library. Judy Bowen has taught art in our district for 15 years. After retirement she plans on relaxing and spending time with her goats! Sarah Galloway has taught both kindergarten and first grade at the Primary School, and has worked in the district for 28 years. Sarah is planning to spend a lot of time with her family, play golf with her husband and work occasionally as a substitute teacher in our district. Cindy Gorski has served as the Parents as Teachers educator in our district for the past 19 years. She is looking forward to retirement and spending more time with her family.

These ladies have had an incredible impact on so many lives. They embody the definition of "teacher", because they made a difference for the students that were in their classrooms. All of us that work at LRP will certainly miss the experience and wisdom that is leaving as these ladies retire.

Summer Reading Program will include a BOOK-MOBILE!!!

We are happy to announce that we will be adding a Book Mobile to our list of "outreach" services that we offer to children during the summer months in an effort to keep them reading during the weeks we are away from school. Every Thursday afternoon the Book Mobile will stop at several locations in Rogersville to provide reading books for children. Mrs. Rumker, Mrs. Harrell and Mrs. Lea are working to plan that route and secure donated materials to be used for this program. Look for a flier coming home for the specific times and locations. If you have any "extra" books at your house, we would gladly accept your donation!

Our regular Summer Reading program will also be held every Thursday evening from 5:00 - 7:00 at the Primary School Library during the months of June and July. During this time children can check out regular library books PLUS books that are on their specific reading level. Teachers are also here to provide reading instruction during this time.

Learning Comes to Life!

At the end of the year, we have several traditional activities to keep our students fully engaged and excited to come to school. Our first graders took a trip to Wonders of Wildlife to learn about wild animals in our area, then they enjoyed a picnic at Phelps Grove Park. The Pre-K and kindergarten students went to the Springfield Nature Center to hike and explore nature. Despite a lot of rain the first week of May, we were able to squeeze in Track and Field Day on May 10. In his first year as our P.E. teacher, Coach Brown did an excellent job of planning a fun-filled day for our students. The end of the year will be packed with Sundae Fun Day, Summer Play Day and Bump-up (where students get to advance to the next grade level and meet their classmates and teacher for the following school year.)
