TIDAL POWER
Wave goodbye to harmful energy
What is tidal power?
Tidal power or tidal energy is a form of hydropower that converts the energy obtained from tides into useful forms of power, mainly electricity. Although not yet widely used, tidal energy has potential for future electricity generation.
different types of tidal power
horizontal axis turbine
Horizontal axis turbines extract energy from moving water in much the same way as wind turbines extract energy from moving air. The tidal stream causes the rotors to rotate around the horizontal axis and generate power.
vertical axis turbine
Vertical axis turbines extract energy from the tides in a similar manner to that above, however the turbine is mounted on a vertical axis. The tidal stream causes the rotors to rotate around the vertical axis and generate power.
ENCLOSED TIPS (VENTURI)
Venturi Effect devices house the device in a duct which concentrates the tidal flow passing through the turbine. The funnel-like collecting device sits submerged in the tidal current. The flow of water can drive a turbine directly or the induced pressure differential in the system can drive an air-turbine.
why you should choose water turbines over any other energy source
- Tidal powers energy efficiency is through the roof compared to other engery sources such as coal, oil and natural gas. Tidal power produces and average of 40% more than efficiency than any other source.
- Although tidal power can put some marine life in danger, the impacts are not nearly as bad as coal, oil, nuclear power and natural gas- thise harm not only the environment but thousands of people aswell.
- Tidal power is very expensive- it typically costs around 3billion dollars to make a tidal power unit
