Grade Level Updates
November has been a busy month for us in the LLC!
Kindergarten has been reading Monarch Award Nominees. These books are nominated by adults, but the winning book is chosen by students in grades K-3 throughout the state of Illinois!
First Grade is learning about the differences between Fantasy Fiction and Realistic Fiction. Sometimes the front cover will give us good clues, sometimes the title, and sometimes we need to read the whole story. The biggest difference is that a Realistic Fiction book could actually happen and a Fantasy Fiction could never happen.
Second Grade is finished learning how to locate books on the shelves! Each second grader earned a sticker for the books he or she was able to find. We searched for picture books in the "E" section, red dot chapter books, and ABC non-fiction. We are ready to start using the catalog!
Third Grade learned about internet safety and what information needs to be kept private online. We also did a quick research activity to find facts about different Native American tribes and then shared the findings with other groups.
Fifth Grade is almost finished with video book talks! We are using copyright free images, our own recordings, and Windows Movie Maker to make quick 30 second book talks about our favorites! A few of these will be showcased on the website soon.
Fourth Grade Research Projects
Fourth grade spent two full weeks in the library working on their Marsh Animal Research Project. They worked on using both print and online resources, taking notes effectively, citing sources, collaborating with a partner, and then presenting their material using a PowerPoint presentation. It was an exciting two weeks and the projects turned out wonderfully!
