SCHROEDER SNAPSHOTS

From the Principal
Greetings Schroeder Families -
Earlier this week Ms. Catherine Gillach, the assistant superintendent of secondary education for GFPS provided an article that stated, “School climate can be difficult to define, though possible to measure. It is the “felt sense” of being in a school, which can arise from a greeting, the way a problem is resolved, or how people work together; it is a school’s “heart and soul,” its “quality and character.”” It is our hope you experience a sense of belonging and respect each time you visit us.
As we enter the second quarter of the 2019-20 school year I would like for you to know we are working to assure every student knows their worth and importance. Later this month I will be meeting with a diverse group of eight students from each grade to discuss the climate of Schroeder Middle School; their sense of belonging; and my work in providing an environment they feel welcome to arrive to and be educated in. I also plan to have grade level classroom meetings in December as was done in September.
Grand Forks Public Schools is continuing to increase its efforts in meeting the social and emotional needs of our students, and at times providing resources to our families as needed. We recognize and thank you for all you provide from the home. Collectively and collaboratively we can observe and appreciate the social, emotional, and educational growth of each student at Schroeder Middle School.

REMINDER OF OUR FOOD POLICY:
- No food is to be delivered to the school at any time.
- IF your child comes to school with a beverage, snack or food item they will need to eat it prior to coming inside of the building.
- Breakfast is available in the cafeteria from 7:40 – 8:30 a.m.
- No food can be taken out of the cafeteria during breakfast or lunch.
- If you bring your child back from an appointment and you have purchased lunch for them they will need to have eaten the food prior to coming back into the building. They can not bring their outside purchased food into the cafeteria to eat lunch. Please plan accordingly so that they have time to eat the food you buy them prior to returning to school.
FEAR THE BEARD
Schroeder's annual Fear the Beard campaign is fully underway. The male teachers in our school have agreed to not shave for the entire month of November to raise money to buy Christmas gifts for Schroeder students that are going through hardships this holiday season. Each teacher has a bucket for donations in their classroom. For every dollar that is raised, students will be able to put their name into a drawing to be held at the end of the month, where students will get to pie any staff member that participates at our celebration assembly. Mr. Chris Douthit and Mrs. Judy Anderson have agreed to each take a pie for the cause, as well.
We were so overwhelmed by support and enthusiasm from last year that we have decided to extend our giving to students in our district outside of Schroeder once our needs are met. Because of this, if we can raise over $3,000 this year, both Superintendant Dr. Terry Brenner and Assistant Superintendant, and former Schroeder principal, Dr. Catherine Gillach have agreed to take a pie at our celebration assembly.
Many of the teachers have also agreed to take a pie on the spot for a donation of $20; this is how the majority of our money is raised. We thank all that have been generous in donating and hope you continue to do so throughout the month. This fundraiser means a great deal for many families and we would love to continue this tradition on for years to come.
This is such a fun fundraiser for the kids and the staff together. Below are some pictures of Officer Farmer, Mr. Sailer, Mr. Meyer (student teacher), and Mr. Simon after getting pied in the face.
