Principal's Message
This week and in the weeks ahead, as the days grow quickly cooler and rapidly shorter, we look forward to welcoming you into our hallways and classroom for fall parent/teacher conferences. These conversations are an essential element of our home-school partnership. Our educators look forward to sharing the latest on your child in school and answering your questions.
Against the backdrop of conference season, please read on for the latest news from in and around Haynes School.
Sincerely,
Jeff LaBroad
Principal
A Personal Message from Haynes School Nurse Lisa Nigrelli
REMINDER: Volunteer Vaccination Verification
There are three easy options in place to verify a volunteer's vaccination status:
▪️ EMAIL a copy of your COVID-19 vaccination card to haynes_office@sudbury.k12.ma.us. You'll receive an email back confirming receipt,
▪️ STOP BY the front office with your card. A member of our team will review your card and log confirmation in our system,
OR
Whichever way you choose, you'll only have to do it once! While you're at it, you can also verify your current CORI status. All volunteers must have a current (within three years) CORI authorization on file with the school.
Parents invited to explore "healthy screen time" for students
Increasingly, data suggests that exposing youth to large amounts of time in front of screens (TV, computer, tablet, or smartphone) can have negative effects on physical and mental development including issues with memory, attention, and language skills. This workshop is designed to provide the tools and vocabulary needed for children and adolescents to make wise choices about balancing daily screen use while focusing more attention on exercise and nutrition.
The presentation will feature Cory Mashburn, M.Ed., in association with The Massachusetts Partnership for Youth. Cory has over 20 years’ experience working with youth and people with disabilities, as well as over 10 years of expertise in the field of prevention services. As the father of two young children, he understands the importance of equipping youth, their parents, and their communities with the knowledge and skills to enable young people to become the best version of themselves.

Haynes introduces new recess activities
Last week Haynes School unveiled a brand new set of games and activities available for use by students during recess. These activities, available to students outdoors each day, are designed to facilitate cooperative engagement off the sports field for those interested students. Thanks to SERF for their generous funding of a grant that provided for these items, to Haynes Special Educator Erin Kehew for developing and organizing the program, and to our fifth grade Safety Patrol for setting up and storing the games at the beginning and end of each day.

Book Fair Returns November 15
From Laura Broderick & Shelle Crandall, HOP Book Fair Co-Chairs
We are excited to invite you to our upcoming Scholastic Book Fair. Hosted by HOP, this event is an opportunity for students of all ages to build their home libraries and further their love of reading. We hope to sell and distribute 1,000 books to our students! As always, each purchase helps support our school, so it’s a win-win.
The book fair will take place in the library during the children’s regularly scheduled library class the week of November 15-19. There are opportunities for volunteers. Click here to sign up.
The students will be able to purchase books and create a wish list for future purchases! If you can’t join us in person, there will be online shopping during the event. Your purchases will still support Haynes school as long as you shop from our web page! This is a great opportunity to get some holiday shopping done for all the readers on your list!
Students may use cash or e-wallet. Parents/Guardians can use cash, credit card, check (made out to HOP) and e-wallet. In order to set up an e-wallet, you must use our homepage as your starting point, so follow the link below. One of the great things about e-wallet is that your child can shop independently and you can send it to extended family to help support your student and school!
Visit our Book Fair homepage to learn more and get started with e-wallet.
School Picture Retake Day November 18
