Dear SASC Families,
We sure miss interacting with each of you in person, but we will make the best of this situation and find meaningful ways to engage with you and your child. While we are all learning how to live in this temporary new circumstance caused by COVID-19, the legal mandates, and best practice of staying home, I want to emphasize the importance of maintaining normalcy in learning and the new role of socialization and relationships for students.
At Springs, we do our best to offer an education that meets the specific needs of each student using a personalized learning model. We continue to make this a priority in all areas of education from basic academic skills, social-emotional learning, and preparation for advancement. One of the greatest life-long set of skills we can reinforce in students is the Habits of Mind.
Habits of Mind are ways in which students organize themselves, plan their work, self-regulate their behaviors, set and manage goals, and develop work and study habits. This is one of the greatest needs for anyone in school, the workforce, and those who stay home. Habits of Mind are also an area of which students receive a mastery grade at Springs besides the basic academic content we call, "I CANS".
We will continue to partner with you to provide the best education possible during this quarantine period. As we return from Spring Break, the expectation is that students have or have received the equipment for online learning. It will be important that learning continues and that students stay connected to peers. Students may fall behind without daily work and this could possibly affect self-esteem. The brain is a muscle that needs to be worked every day. With this in mind, please ensure your student:
Follows the assigned work schedule designated by your class
Completes and turns in work assigned in the area of reading, writing, and math every day
Attends online live class sessions
Attends online available small group learning and supported learning opportunities
Develops a daily schedule to avoid becoming overwhelmed
We know that there are many factors that may make distance learning difficult in some circumstances. We would like to work with you in advance if this is the case. Springs has heart and our heart is here for you and your family in this time of need. We understand how difficult these times are right now for our families and everyone at Springs is here to help support your child academically. Our goal is to ensure that all of our students will be able to make a seamless transition back into the classroom once school resumes. In each area, we will be flexible and work with your family. Our goal is that students also continue to earn their Mastery Grades by working with their teacher, attending online class meetings, completing assignments, and of course, displaying Habits of Mind.
We are excited to offer the opportunity for your child to continue their growth toward mastery in this new method and we hope to maintain strong relationships with you and your child. Relationships are the foundation of Springs Charter Schools and we want to remind you that we are family and you belong!
Please reach out to your teacher or me if you have any questions or concerns relating to your child's academic or social-emotional well-being. We want to provide the best service to you and your family during these difficult times and tailor it to your unique situation.
With great love and care
