Help Your Coyote Get Ready for College: A Note from the Physical Education Department
My name is Coach Taylor Pena, I am an intern with the Physical Education department this Spring and a Master’s student at Arizona State University. Working with many of the students this semester has been a pleasure, and I truly wish I would have been able to have such an amazing PE program when I was in high school. As I just finished my undergraduate program not too long ago, many of the students have asked me ways to get through college and staying HEALTHY! Because, eating well, exercising and mental health practice will make students happier, more confident and perform better in school. Here are some of my top tips to help students get ready for college!
1: Go grocery shopping- learn to use coupons, pick healthy foods and shop on a budget
2: Cook meals- starting helping with family meals and try meal prepping lunches for the school week
3: Exercise- find 30-60 minutes a day to play sports, go to a gym, walk the dog or hike
4: Technology- take time away from social media and TV
5: Just breathe- always save time for yourself to reflect on your day and clear your mind
When eating well, exercising properly and taking time for your mental health, it will make your days more focused and you’ll be happier! I can attest to this as a student who was an athlete in high school, became overweight in college, lost weight and now wants to help the future students realize the importance of health and ways to be healthy!

Mardi Gras comes to CVHS!
French students celebrated Mardi Gras on Tuesday, March 5th with traditional foods and activities from different parts of the French-speaking world. Level 1 students are currently studying Louisiana so their food featured Cajun and Creole specialties like Jambalaya and Gumbo. La Provence (southern, Mediterranean France) was the focus for level 2 students with foods like aioli, tapenade, and ratatouille. And the French 3 students tried their hands at food from the Maghreb - Northern African countries like Tunisia, Algeria, and Morocco. They made na'an, pakora, and biryani, among other specialties. All French traditions include masks and King Cakes. Hidden inside each King Cake (Galette des Rois) is a tiny "baby" and the person who finds the baby in his/her piece is crowned King/Queen of the Mardi Gras celebration. In Louisiana, that person is responsible for bringing the cake the next year! Students made their own masks and wore them during the class celebration. The pictures show some first year students in their masks and Sydney Brandt, Jenna Werner, and Gabriel Zepeda with their King Cakes.

Library Information
March Madness is here and the library has all our books about basketball, basketball players, fictional stories with kids who play basketball, etc. on display! And we have also put up a display that uses famous quotes from the sports world to inspire and motivate students. We hope these pictures, quotes, and books help our Campo students persevere through the last quarter of school.
The Campo Verde Toybox was lucky enough to have another guest author read to the students. Brenda Lochinger is a local author who has children that have attended Campo Verde High School. Her Nut Family children's book series can be found at Barnes and Noble and amazon. Our Toybox kids loved hearing the third book in her series, I’m Whirrley, and coloring various coloring pages that feature the different characters in the books.

CVHS BAND MUSICIANS MAKE IT TO ALL-STATE
We are proud to announce the following CVHS student musicians, who earned a place in the All-State Honor Band:
Emily Bowe - Piccolo (2nd alternate)
Daniel Walker - Flute
Grace Nolan - Flute
Tony Fiandaca - Oboe (2nd alternate)
John Burton - Clarinet
Kristine Vu - Clarinet
Connor Geroux - Bass Clarinet (1st alternate)
Max Bustamante - CB Clarinet
Nolan Morse - Tenor Sax
Chiara Fiandaca - French Horn
Jake Harker - Trombone (2nd alternate)
Dallin Wise - Euphonium
To achieve this successful outcome, these young musicians had to demonstrate musical maturity, among other key elements, to rank above hundreds of other Arizona musicians in the All-State audition process. Another important factor is the positive influence and support the students received from all educators and parents who paved the path to victory. Campo Verde Band has the second most students involved in Arizona All State out of all high schools who participate! Congratulations!

Campo's Zine
By the end of this month, Campo Verde High School will be debuting its very own zine (a small-scale magazine). Student writers, artists, photographers, and journalists have been working tirelessly on this first issue since January, which has been constructed and designed by Campo students from start to finish. Keep a look out for The Green and Copper -- arriving fresh from the printers soon, for all students, parents, and faculty to read at their leisure. And if you know a student who might be interested in submitting work, please direct them to enroll in the Journalism Google Classroom: x0tvdzq. Submissions of student work are always welcome!
