Gold Hill Elementary School Robotics Team Headed Back to State Championship
Tega Cay, SC - January 11, 2018 - The Gold Hill Elementary School Robotics Club, is only in their second year of existence and they are heading to the South Carolina FIRST LEGO West State Championship to compete for a chance to continue their legacy of excellence at the World Festival in Houston, TX.
The Hyperlink Hornets are a group of nine students from 4th and 5th grades at GHES. They wowed the judges at the York Regional Tournament in December with their innovative design for “The Storm Drain Strain”. This removable device is designed to keep plastic out of storm drains, which in turn, keeps them from ending up in natural water sources. Team scores were based on Core Values, Project and Robot Design and Robot Game scores.
The Hornets were one of the six teams (and the only elementary school) selected to advance to State Championship. The team also received the Project Award, which is awarded to the team that excels across the Research, Innovative Solution and Presentation categories.
They will compete against 46 other schools at the West State Championship which will be held on Saturday, January 27 at Riverside High School in Greer, SC.
The team is coached by David Hook, Erika Mochal and Ana Rodriguez.
