August 2023 Hillcrest Newsletter
Welcome to the 23/24 School Year!
I was scrolling through social media on Saturday night, and I saw a quote that caught my eye. The meme stated, "A new school year means new beginnings, new adventures." Over the last two weeks, I have had a wonderful experience at Hillcrest Elementary School as I begin my new beginning and adventure as principal. I have been amazed by the kindness and support from our families, our students, and our staff. I have never felt more confident that this year has potential to be one of the best.
Just as I have felt the kindness and support, I want you to feel that from me as well. I am here to support your family and your child as we strive to give them a well-rounded education. My door is open, and I am thankful to be on your team.
My email is ctapscott@emsd37.org - or you may contact me from 7:30am-4:00pm (Monday through Friday) at 309-755-7621.

Weather
We feel it is valuable for our students to get outside and play! As long as the temperature is not above 90 degrees, your student will go outside for recess. Our buildings are air conditioned, and each student will get the opportunity to have a drink of water when they return from playing outside.
In the winter if the "feels like temperature" is below ten, the students will stay inside.
As the weather changes, please send your child in appropriate clothes.

A Message from our PTO:
We would love for you to join the Hillcrest PTO for the 2023-2024 School Year!
This is a parent and teacher organization that works together to host events for students and staff throughout the year through fundraising. Our #1 goal is to give back to our school community of students and staff. Some of the events PTO lead during the 2022-2023 school year were:
Boo Grams, Winter Wonderland, Family Bingo Night, Teacher Appreciation Week, multiple spirit nights at local businesses and more...
Hillcrest PTO meetings are held once monthly at 3:30pm in the library. Meeting updates are sent out via email, social media, and text blasts.
Come to a meeting to join PTO and learn more!
Our School Family Goal
Throughout the school year, we will have goals to try to meet as an entire school family. The first school wide goal is: At Hillcrest Elementary School we will earn 16 COMPLIMENT parties by September 1, 2023. Ask your student: What is a compliment? How do you earn a compliment? How many compliments does your school family have currently? We are working hard on following the 3 B's of Hillcrest. We are realizing that others notice when we do good things and the compliments we receive make us feel good intrinsically.
