Message from Mrs. Kilday
After a busy week, I found myself walking our school Friday afternoon and I couldn't help but think of the story we are telling with our artwork and displays. I saw example after example of ways in which we are teaching our preschoolers to celebrate diversity and how we are working to create a sense of belonging for every child and their family. This is very important work for us and I am proud of what we have already done. I have shared some pictures of these examples below.
When I see our students in the hallway high fiving the handprint most resembling their skin color, I know we are on the right track. When I hear a student singing in their first language for others to hear, I know we are on the right track. When I see books representing all of our students and families, I know we are on the right track. When our CAPT is discussing cultural celebrations, I know we are on the right track. These things bring me joy! This is when I know I am right where I need to be, with the staff I need to be with, with the children I want to be with. This is what a true sense of belonging feels like and I sincerely hope all of you feel it in our school as well.
Have a wonderful weekend. Remember, no school tomorrow. I will see you on Tuesday.
Donna

Curriculum Corner
Over the weekend take a walk and find some colored leaves and acorns, watch for animals in your environment and listen to the sounds of fall. Talk with your child about what you find and expand their vocabulary. Did you know the size of a child's vocabulary as they enter Kindergarten is predictive of reading success? This is one of the reasons why we focus on vocabulary and building oral language skills. Check out our monthly calendar to find our vocabulary words for the fall unit.

Cantonstock is Coming Soon!
MUSICCOUNTS! and the Canton Performing Arts Department proudly present Cantonstock 2021 on November 6th 12-4pm.
Cantonstock is the annual music extravaganza that showcases hundreds of student musicians representing all performing ensembles in the Canton schools, and is the primary fundraiser for MusicCounts, the volunteer, non-profit group dedicated to supporting all music programs in all the Canton Public Schools!
This year, Cantonstock will be located outdoors at the Canton High School so you can enjoy student performances live in-person. The mission is to raise funds for music programming for all students!
Visit our website at: www.MusicCountsinCanton.org
Here are several ways you can help:
• Sponsor a Student for Cantonstock
T-shirt orders must be received by October 12th! Each student who receives $50 in sponsors will receive this year’s version of the popular Cantonstock T-Shirt! Shirts are 100% Cotton and the colors change each year so students enjoy collecting them as they progress through the schools! (Additional students in the same household only need to raise $15 each to qualify for a shirt too!)
This option gives you different donation levels to select from and isn't tied to a specific student or deadline. We'll be happy to recognize your contribution on our website, social media, and other channels too!
• Be a Business or Organizational Sponsor
We’re so grateful to the businesses and organizations for their past support, and hope they continue again this year. We’d really love to add new business and organizational sponsors too! Please view our current and previous list of sponsors and be sure to support them!
