Seasons

What causes day and night on Earth?
Day and night is caused by the rotation of the Earth on its axis.
What is Earth's rotation on its axis and how long does it take the Earth to rotate once?
Earth's rotation is why we have day and night. It takes 23 hours 56 minutes and 4 seconds to complete a rotation.
What is Earth's revolution around the Sun and how long does one revolution take?
Earth's revolution is one of the causes of the seasons, but not the main reason. It takes 365.25 days to complete a revolution around the sun.
What are the two reasons we have seasons on Earth?
The main reason we have seasons is the tilt of the earth's axis. The second reason we have seasons is our revolution around the Sun.
What is the Difference between seasons in the northern and southern hemisphere?
The seasons are opposite because of the tilt of the Earth and where the most sunlight hits. If the southern hemisphere has the most direct light then the northern hemisphere will have the least amount of sun.
Where on Earth does not experience changes in seasons and why?
The equator doesn't experience season It doesn't experience seasons because it the equator gets direct sunlight all year around. The tilt is perfect because if the tilt was greater the south hemisphere wouldn't experience seasons.
What is the difference in the length of days between our summer and Winter months?
In the summer months that days are longer therefore the nights are shorter. In winter the nights are longer and the days are shorter. The summer gets more sunlight then in the winter you get lees sunlight.
What are the winter and summer solstices and when do they occur?
The winter solstice is the shortest day of the year. This occurs on December 21. The summer solstice is the longest day of the year. This occurs on June 21.
What are the spring and fall equinoxes and when do they occur?
The spring and fall equinoxes are day and night are equal. The spring equinox occurs on March 21. The fall equinox is on September 21.
How long are the days at the North and South poles during their summer months and why?
In the north pole it is sunny all day. The way the Earth tilts has the North pole facing directly at the sun so it gets direct sun light all day. The South pole is just like the north pole, but in December.
How long are the days throughout the year at the equator and why?
It is twelve hours and seven minute. It is equal because there is direct sunlight, so the sun cover half of the equator and the other is in dark.
What would it be like if the Earth was not tilted on its axis?
Every thing is would be one season because direct light all year around. Also, every day would be equal to the night time.
What do you think would happen if the Earth was tilted to a greater degree?
The season would be more direct because the sun would be more direct. The winter season would be very cold because there would be a lot less light.
Do you think there are any naturally occuring events that could cause seasons to change?
Global warming could change the seasons because there could be no more cold winter. The atmosphere would make the suns heat hotter than usual and winter's temperature would be more like summers temperature.
What do you think would happen to seasons on Earth if we were closer to the Sun?
The season would get hotter. The closer you get to the sun the hotter the planet would be. The seasons will still be summer, fall, winter, and spring just the temperature would be warmer.
When the seasons change does the length of your shadows change? Explain your thinking.
No, because the length of a showdown depends on the sun. When the sun is high in the sky you have no shadow. It depends on the sun not the season.
How do you think organisms (plants and animals) are able to understand the change in seasons (Bears going into hibornation; plants starting to lose leaves)?
They learn it by every generation they inherit good traits and the bad traits die off. The good traits will keep going through the off spring. Same thing for the plants.
What effect would a faster revolution have on the Earth's seasons?
The effect would be that the seasons would be shorter. The year would be shorter, so the season would go by faster than usual.
