Runyan Mission
Our Mission: Something to ponder...
- How am I reassuring my students during this time of so much uncertainty -- that they'll be okay...? that I'm okay...? that this will all end at some point...?
If you want your children to listen, try talking softly to someone else. ~Ann Landers
Celebrations!
SAEs for this week: 11
TAEs for this week: 15
Before You come to Campus...
- Food distribution screening questions -- These questions should be used generically (not just for those distributing food). BEFORE coming to school on any given day, please screen yourself using these questions. If you are not able to pass, DO NOT come to campus.
- Campus attendance log -- We must track who is on campus at any given time in case there is a need to retrace exposure. Please complete the log found at the Google link below EVERY TIME you are one campus. This applies to ALL employees. No visitors should be allowed inside the building.
School Closure Updates as of 4.9.20
Please see my hastily written notes from the district meetings this week:
Friday is still a holiday – no phones, email, etc., especially for hourly employees
Grades: grading guidelines provided; working to make it low stress for parents and teachers
- The idea is to continue learning; not about grades
- Giving kids a lot of grace – intentional
- Don’t use a Z, because it calculates as a zero
- Use an X, if no grade
- Communications will publish on the website for parents
- No major grades / final exams
- District may disable some notification within PAC (grade notification, food debt, etc.) to limit stress to families
- If collecting paper work back from students, guidance is to leave it alone for 24 hours before touching it. Use gloves to handle it.
Still in Essential Operations – nobody on campus unless essential; hourly employees not on campus and only working at home between 8:00-3:00 (including district email, etc.)
- Continue to monitor phones and “contactrunyan” email
- Document who is on campus
- Limit the number of people at one time
District is hoping to apply for a waiver from T-TESS this year. Request is pending board approval... Information will be published in the near future.
Safe Schools is open – contains some long courses (Epilepsy and Seizures; cyber security)
- The Epilepsy course contains a survey that some folks are reluctant to complete. This is a state-mandated course, so it must be completed. For some questions there is an option not to respond; other questions require a response. Maintain a copy of your certificate within your own records to document your successful completion of the course.
Continuing T/TH food distribution
Health Update:
- A surge of COVID 19 cases is anticipated in our area
- Employees should take health screener before coming on campus at anytime
- Track who on campus so can retrace exposure if necessary
- Masks:
- People are asked to voluntarily wear homemade masks (anything wrapped around your face) when interacting with the public or coming on campus
- Does not prevent one from being infected, but helps to prevent one from infecting others
- Many carriers have minor symptoms and do not realize they’re sick
- Maintain social distancing, even if having a mask
- Some people should not wear a mask:
- No one under two
- No one who cannot take it off
- Anyone with a breathing difficulty condition
Zoom video coming out soon – how to use updated security features
Virtual job fair? Under consideration…
Letters of Reasonable Assurance for hourly staff
- Letters will be sent electronically to hourly staff. (Watch for a district email.) Each hourly staff member must acknowledge electronically by following the directions within the email.
Curriculum
- More Spanish resources available
- Pearson materials copyright – cannot be on parent site because no permission from Pearson
- Parent site will now be updated Thursday mornings. Teacher site will continue to be updated on the existing schedule.
Assessment and Accountability
- Manual will be published in early May
- Campuses will not be rated for 2019-2020. Instead, all campuses will maintain their existing rating and interventions.
- "Progress" is still being debated. Trying to decide how to measure since no test this year. Information should be coming out later this semester.
Facility
- Continuing to e-mist office
- Notify Marshall if use another area, so can e-mist that, as well
Continue T/Th district meeting cycle

Grading Guidelines -- Updated as of 4.8.20
This guidance is very much aligned with our current understanding, and we will proceed as planned.
Within this updated version, the district has provided guidance for PK, K and Specials. Please review and list questions / topics you'd like to discuss on your team's Monday agenda.
Exchange Day
- Acknowledge your understanding by following the directions included within the district email. Your acknowledgement is required for participation. Failure to acknowledge will mean you intend to work a typical workday on August 4th.
- Begin completing your Safe Schools coursework. To be eligible for the Exchange Day, you must complete 100% of your coursework by 12:00PM on August 3rd. Jewel and I will check completion at that time and notify those who need to report to work on August 4th.
Note: The district usually adds courses throughout the Summer. If you complete all your coursework early, be sure to check back just before the deadline to make sure something wasn't added after you thought you were through. Even things added late must be completed by the deadline in order to qualify for the Exchange Day.
