Dear Parents and Guardians,
This week Mrs McGougan is attending the Principal’s Conference with other Principals from Catholic schools around the state. Performing Arts Opening Mass
Last Thursday I had the privilege of attending the Opening Mass for the Performing Arts Festival with Mrs. Hughes, and Year 6 students, Alice and Eliza. The Mass was celebrated by Archbishop Timothy Costelloe, who spoke about the importance of schools coming together to celebrate the arts through choral singing, drama and liturgical dance. We look forward to our talented students here at Whitford Catholic taking part in this annual event.
Parent and Child First Holy Communion Workshops
Thank you to those parents and children who participated in the Parent and Child Communion Workshops this week. The School and Parish acknowledge and value the role of parents as the first educators of their child’s faith and appreciate the important role you play in the faith journey of your child.
Bishops Religious Literacy Assessment
At the request of the Western Australian Bishops, Year 3 and Year 5 students in Catholic Schools across Western Australia will take part in The Bishops’ Religious Literacy Assessment (BRLA). The purpose of the BRLA is to measure student learning of the content in the Religious Education curriculum. The Year 5 students will be taking part in the assessment on Wednesday 7 August and Year 3 students will complete theirs on Wednesday 8 August.
Mater Dei AFL Scholarship
Congratulations to Molly Jones (Yr.6) who was one of the successful recipients of the Mater Dei College Year 7 2020 Hawks AFL Academy Scholarships. We are so proud of you and look forward to seeing you play for the AFLW Eagles or Dockers team in the future.
Winter Woolies Day
Well done to all students for getting into the spirit of Winter Woolies Day last Wednesday and donating a gold coin. We raised an incredible $685 which will go towards the St Vinnies' Winter Appeal.

Governance of Catholic Education
On Monday of this week, the Most Reverend Donald Sproxton, Auxiliary Bishop of Perth, announced the decision by the Bishops of Western Australia to incorporate Catholic education in Western Australia.
The Executive Director of Catholic Education WA, Dr Debra Sayce has welcomed this significant move to a more contemporary governance structure, promoting greater clarity and transparency across our system. Pivotal to the decision making process was the sustainability of Catholic education in our state and the need to ensure that any change in governance will have minimal impact on the operations of Catholic schools.
An announcement letter from Bishop Sproxton is available here, together with his speech presented at the Catholic Education Leaders’ Forum on Monday.

School Choir - One Big Voice
Our choir students have been rehearsing for their performance at the One Big Voice concert being held in August. Hopefully these students have been accessing the online resources and practising the songs and actions at home.
Tickets are now on sale from Ticketek. We are performing in the matinee show at 12.30pm. Our school will be closest to the Beethoven section (green) and are standing at Podium 2. My understanding from information I have received is that section 215 would provide the best opportunity to see your child performing.
Please see below for seating details.
Please email me (steven.ostaszewskyj@cewa.edu.au) if you would like to ask a question. I will shortly be sending extra information regarding the performance home with your child.
