Reading Workshop
Once upon a time....
In reading workshop, we are continuing to explore fairy tales and their elements. Fairy tales often include magic, royalty, special beginning and ending words, 3s, 7s, and important lessons. Here are some of the books that we have read so far! Ask your kiddos about which has been their favorite. We have loved all the enjoyment they are getting out of them.
Language Workshop
We are beginning to wrap up our Cinderella's Around the World unit. Your child has read about many different cultures and countries, experiencing their versions of the classic fairytale all over the globe. Next week will be our final stories, hearing versions from Egypt, Greece and Alaska! Continue to ask them questions about them, as they will have to compare and contrast for our final day.
Writing Workshop
We have been having a lot of fun using our imagination and creativity this month, as we write poems for our poetry unit. Students have put a lot of "tools" in their poets toolbox to use. Some of them are:
- Using poets ears and eyes
- Using line breaks
- Repetition
- Strong, precise words
- Being moody and using emotion
Math Workshop
We have moved away from money, in which your kiddos did an amazing job with! We are so proud of their accomplishments, and give thanks to you for practicing at home. We have moved onto our Time unit. We have learned how to tell time to the quarter hour, half hour, five minute, and even started working into third grade standards like to the minute and elapsed time. Please feel free to continue working with them at home on skills with analog clocks!
Cold Weather
The cold weather is upon us. Please make sure that your child has a hat, gloves, jacket, and boots every day. Jackets, hats, and gloves keep students warm. Boots allow kids to play in the snow, but also keep the rugs in the classroom clean. When students change from outdoor boots to inside shoes, the rugs do not get dirt and salt on them. This will keep our classroom rugs looking newer longer. Snow pants are also very helpful when playing in the snow, but they also keep kids warm. Thanks for partnering with us to keep children warm and the classroom clean.
iPads & Headphones
Please ensure that your child has an iPad charged to 100% at the beginning of each day.
Also, every student needs to have a pair of working headphones.
Handwriting
Note: Handwriting is important! By second grade, students should have correct letter formation and word spacing. They also should be able to write on the lines. If you feel like your child could use some extra handwriting practice at home, please contact your child's homeroom teacher.
Valentine's Day - UPDATED
Valentine's Day Cards
Students are invited to make valentines day cards for their friends. Please make a card for every child in the class. We do not want anyone to have hurt feelings or be left out. A class list was sent out in a previously email. Students can also choose to leave the To: blank and just fill in the From: section.
Valentine's Day Box
Please have your child decorate a bag or box at home to bring in to collect their cards. It needs to be bigger than a large shoe box, so it can fit all 28+ valentines.
Please have your child bring in their valentines box and cards by Tuesday, February 9, 2021.
