In case I haven't told you lately, "Thank you!"
Thank you for sending your great kids to Tustumena Elementary! I enjoy each of them and always feel like I am "in the right place."
There are many things going on in the weeks to come so please take a close look at all of the sections of this newsletter.
Thank you again.

Believe it or Not...
This may seem crazy but…
It is already time to register for our next year's preschool or kindergarten program. If you know any family that has a 4 or 5 year old child (must turn 4 (preschool) or 5 (kindergarten) before September 1, 2018) please encourage them to stop by school for a registration packet. Registering early helps us prepare for staffing and material needs. It also helps with scheduling times for screening of academic needs of the students. Families can stop by the school for a packet. Call Mrs. Mills if you have any questions 260-1345.

Happy New Year to all. I hope you had a fantastic holiday. Here is some information about the flu. If you think your child is having signs and symptoms of the flu, please DO NOT send them to school. Please take them to your doctor for evaluation.
Influenza (also known as “flu”) is a contagious respiratory illness caused by influenza viruses. It can cause mild to severe illness, and at times can lead to death. The flu is different from a cold. The flu usually comes on suddenly. People who have the flu often feel some or all of these symptoms:
Fever* or feeling feverish/chills
Cough
Sore throat
Runny or stuffy nose
Muscle or body aches
Headaches
Fatigue (tiredness)
Some people may have vomiting and diarrhea, though this is more common in children than adults.
* It’s important to note that not everyone with flu will have a fever.
Most people who get influenza will recover in a few days to less than two weeks, but some people will develop complications (such as pneumonia) as a result of the flu, some of which can be life-threatening. Your doctor may be able to recommend medicine that will lessen the severity and shorten the length of your illness.
CDC recommends that you stay home for at least 24 hours after your fever is gone except to get medical care or other necessities. Your fever should be gone without the use of a fever-reducing medicine. You should stay home from work, school, travel, shopping, social events, and public gatherings. CDC continues to recommend influenza vaccination as flu viruses are likely to continue circulating for weeks.
If you have any questions, please call me 907-260-1372.
