What is the difference between calorie and Calories? One (1) kilocalorie is the same as one (1) Calorie (upper case C). A kilocalorie is the amount of heat required to raise the temperature of 1 kilogram of water one degree Celsius. The "calorie" we refer to in food is actually kilocalorie.

What does it mean if a food is a calorie dense vs. low calorie density foods?

What is an "empty calorie"?

  1. Empty Calories are the calories from solid fats and added sugars in foods and beverages. They add to total calories, but provide no vitamins or minerals. Preschoolers can have some "empty calories", but too many can fill them up without supplying the nutrients they need.

Do you think that posting calories on restaurants is a good idea why or why not? EXPLAIN?

Yes because then you would know if it is a bad idea or good idea and you would also know how many calories you are investing and how many calories you need to work off.

How should the number of calories you consume compare the calories you burn? What happens if they don't match?

  • Maintaining weight — Your weight will stay the same when the calories you eat and drink equal the calories you burn.
  • Losing weight — You will lose weight when the calories you eat and drink are less than the calories you burn.
  • Gaining weight — You will gain weight when the calories you eat and drink are greater than the calories you burn.
