Happy Summer! May and Summer edition 2016

Words From Our President...

Active! I enjoy staying active, but what does that mean exactly? It doesn't mean running though sometimes I do run around in circles. It could be walking as I enjoy that activity when we're not in the depths of "winter" in May!

Active! One can also be mentally active. Picture yourself doing mental gymnastics. You could be on the rings or on the balance beam. (picture of beam) I definitely lack arm strength for the rings. The balance beam evokes unpleasant memories of 8th grade P.E. class. We had to choreograph a routine and then perform it . . . for a grade. Let's just say that my mount and "dismount" occurred multiple times. . . simultaneously. I hardly stayed on long enough to perform my dip steps. Now, you understand why I can stay active with mental gymnastics better than actual gymnastics!
Active! Though I understand the importance of an exercise activity, I stay active in other ways.
Active! On a daily basis, you'll see me at a meeting or two or three.
Active! I enjoy staying mentally active by keeping up with current events; especially politics. (picture of a smiley face)
Active! I encourage you to become active in Association work as I have been. (for decades) You form friendships and gain insight into challenges faced by colleagues while celebrating others' successes.
Active! We all need to step up our activity as our retiring teachers showed us the way. All seventeen demonstrated commitment and activism as a member. Some served on discussion, some served as an Association Representative, and four served as officers with two former Presidents. Our challenge is to continue to be active and to replace the activism of our retirees.
Active! On a personal note, I would like to give recognition to two former Presidents of HSEA--Kathy Sherman and Kathi Vance. We would all do well to emulate their professionalism and their passion for their students.
Active! Let's ramp up our activism collectively and keep me away from mental gymnastics and balance beam dip steps.

HUGE THANKS to Karin Foster for all of her service with HSEA! Thanks for all you do Karin, and will continue to do!
