Come for the inaugural a cappella workshop and competition!

Georgia College High School A Cappella Day

This one day event is a chance for you and your students to work with Georgia College faculty and other contemporary a cappella experts. We will begin the day with classes and workshop in several special topic areas, including arranging, vocal percussion (beatboxing), and solo performing. After lunch in the campus dining hall and a tour of the campus, we will continue the afternoon with masterclasses for each group with a contemporary a cappella expert. The evening will concluding with a competition/showcase for all the groups.

REGISTRATION FORMS

Teachers, please fill out the teacher form and have each student fill out the student form. If you would prefer to fill out one grid for the group you are bringing, please request one at stephen.hutchings@gcsu.edu.

FRIDAY, APRIL 22, 2016 - INAUGURAL EVENT

The cost for the day is $40 per student, which includes lunch, a cappella materials, and commemorative T-shirt. The RSVP and registration form may be found above. Please bring as many students as you would like to bring and have each individual student submit the form. Each director considering bringing a group should RSVP. If you plan to bring more than 5 students, either you must either attend or send a parent chaperone. We will confirm each school's registration list the week before the event and more information by email. The forms are due by Friday, April 8, in order to give us time to make lunch reservations and order t-shirts. Payment is requested by Friday, April 15.

Stephen Hutchings

Stephen Hutchings is the Director of the co-ed a cappella group at Georgia College, The Cat's Meow. He received his B.M. in Music Education from the University of Georgia and his M.M.E. from Georgia College. At UGA he was an active member of the contemporary a cappella community and a member of the co-ed a cappella group With Someone Else's Money (WSEM). During his time in WSEM he recorded with Ben Folds and was featured on the CD, Ben Folds Presents: University A Cappella! He was also a member and music director of the all-male group The Accidentals, twice making the International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella (ICCA) Finals in NYC and placing 3rd in 2010. He is an active contemporary a cappella arranger for high school, collegiate, and professional groups with over 100 arrangements.
