STUDENT NEWS
Black History Month Presentation
All grades will attend this hour long multimedia presentation and concert which highlights African-American heritage, music, cultural progression, and socio-economic milestones. Music will progress through the presentation, along with discussion of important information and topics from decade to decade, from the 1950s, all the way up to current events. The band also performs popular music from each decade, ending with a performance of some of today's top hits.
8th Grade SOLs
Eighth grade students will be taking their Writing SOL tests which is in two parts (Writing Prompt and Multiple Choice) on March 4th and 5th during the morning.
IMPORTANT: Students need to bring their fully charged chromebooks for testing.
The testing will begin immediately following morning announcements for all eighth graders. It is extremely important that students are present for their tests on both days and arrive to school on time. Of course, we always recommend a good night’s sleep and morning breakfast prior to the testing sessions. Please make sure you try to avoid scheduling appointments and early dismissals for eighth graders during the mornings of March 4th and March 5th.
Lost & Found
Please claim your items by Friday March 6th when the lost & found items will be cleared out.
Power Up!
To encourage our Falcons to be prepared for the school day, we are having a POWER UP! day on Friday February 21st. Students can earn RUs for showing us their fully charged chromebooks.
Please encourage your student to POWER UP! at home so that they are prepared when they get to school.
Rising 9th Graders
Bookopoly
Bookopoly is in high gear in its 4th week as we have 139 players so far!
Players have earned 122 pins, and we have had four winners in our weekly random prize drawing. Ten students have already completed more than four bookopolies and have earned a spot in the Bookopoly party. It has been so fun to see the student participation and enthusiasm for reading, especially if they are reading a new genre.
Teachers have been logging books too! Mrs. Geiger is in the lead so far having read ten books in the last month. We look forward to seeing what Bookopoly will bring in the coming weeks.
It's not too late to join. Come by the library for details.
5th Grade Orientation
The 5th Grade Orientation is set for March 26th at 9:15am at FWS. Fifth graders will learn about middle school and tour the school. We look forward to seeing our future Falcons! More information coming soon.

We encourage students to create a team and designate a team captain. Team captains can get a registration packet at their House office. The team captain will fill out the team registration form and each player must complete a permission slip included in the packet. All forms should be turned in to Mr. Puterio by Friday February 28th.

FALCON TECH NEWS
FALCON TECH NEWS
Parents! Good News! If your student has lost the charger for their LCPS Chromebook, replacement chargers are now available for purchase at the discounted price of $20 on the Online School Payments for FWS. Chargers are also available for sale before school in the Falcon's Nest, the FWS school store.
Note that the replacement charger is the property of LCPS and at the end of the school year, students will be expected to return both the Chromebook and charger to FWS.
Parents, please be aware that Chromebook repairs for misuse and abuse are not covered under accidental insurance. Damage from overstuffed backpacks or closing the lid on pens, pencils, headphones, etc. is considered as misuse and/or abuse.
Here are some reminders for care and maintenance of student devices.
- Students should use their neoprene sleeves any time they are moving from one class to the locker, another class or to and from home. If they've lost it, they should purchase another one. Check out the Falcon's Nest.
- Students should never leave their device open unattended or walk around with it open.
- Carrying the device only by the lid can cause damage.
- The Chromebook with or without the sleeve should be on TOP of any stack, never ever under.
- Chromebooks in the sleeve in an overstuffed backpack will get damaged and are not covered under insurance.
Students are expected to bring their Chromebook to school every day and it should be fully charged. Periodic checks will be made between now and the end of school with RUs being distributed for those students that consistently bring their device ready for school. A fully charged device is considered being prepared for the day.
If your student has an issue with their device, fill out a Falcon Help Desk Form. The form is also on LCPSGo. Your student will then need to bring the device to the Tech Office in Lab 3.
LCPS Annual Parent & Family Survey
LCPS will release the LCPS Annual Parent and Family Survey on Tuesday February 18th. The online survey will be delivered to parents in a link. The link will be distributed midday via text message and email. Parents will receive one message for each grade level - elementary, middle or high - in which they have a student enrolled. The survey asks for feedback about the learning environment in your child's school to help staff in future planning. All survey responses are anonymous. The survey will be open through Friday March 6th.
