The purpose of using scientific notation
PURPOSE
The purpose of using scientific notation is can find a very small number o very large number.
Ex 1. The Mexican population in 2010 is 8.85x10^6 =8,850,000. (eight million, eight hundred fifty thousand people)
Standard form: 8.85x10^6= 8 850 000 (move six times to the right for find the number)

Ex 2. How heavy is an elephant? is a 2.4x10^2= 240 lb. (two hundred forty pounds)
Standard form: 2.4x10^2= 2 40 (move two times to the right for find the number)
.............................................->.
Or doing the same but using negative numbers for find a smallest number.
Ex. How heavy is an ant? is a 6.5x10^-5= .000065
Standard form: 6.5x10^5= .000065 (move five times to the left for find the number)
