Syracuse Elementary Family Update
June 29, 2020
I am Happy to Be Here!
I am so happy to be here as the new principal. Mrs. Merkley has done so many things to make this school a wonderful place to learn. I promise to keep that tradition going for you and your children. I hope to get to know all of you this year. It is important to me to feel a connection to our stakeholders here. You send us your amazing kids and we want to give them the BEST education possible. My official first day is Wednesday, but we needed to get the message out about availability in first grade immersion.
I thought I'd share a little about myself so you can get to know me a little better. My husband, Steve Hammer, and I live here in Syracuse. We have ten children between us and 22 grandchildren. We love going to our cabin, traveling, rockhounding, and fishing. I taught 4th grade many years ago and taught 6th grade at West Clinton Elementary for 8 years. I have been an assistant principal at four schools and was principal at Whitesides and Layton Elementary Schools before coming here. Mrs. Moon and I worked together at Whitesides. She is an outstanding leader and I am so happy to work with her again.
I would love to do some Zoom meetings this summer to get to know you all and help you with updates about how education will look in August and beyond. Please watch for callouts and/or emails for dates and times!
Sincerely,
Diane Hammer, Principal
