This newsletter will be sent home most weeks. As a bonus this year, there is an option to send a digital copy of the newsletter. If you'd like to receive the newsletter electronically, please let me know which email to send this newsletter to.
Week in Review!
One focus this week has been talking about our reading lives. This year, we are all going to read a lot more and a larger variety of books! Additionally, we have discussed our goals and the steps needed to achieve them. Please let me know of any specific needs or requests. I can make anybooks and audiobooks available. I will do whatever it takes to get the right book in the students' hands.
Please please encourage reading at home! Reading even 20 minutes a night makes a HUGE difference. Thank you for your support!

Coming Next Week
Next week, the real nitty-gritty begins. Both the 5th and 6th grades will start with our new Reading Series, Wonders. This program will be a change from the past few years, but will be a positive change for all students! I hope to set a weekly routine with Reading/Writing and this program, but it might take a few weeks to work out the kinks. Please let me know what works and what doesn't as we progress through our first couple weeks!
5th Grade Social Studies will hit the ground running next week. We will start our unit on the US Government! We will have a pretest next week to see where we are starting and learn about our three branches of government, how bills become laws, and the Constitution. This is going to be building off of where we left off last year in US History. It is such an important and exciting topic I am happy to work on with the class.
6th Grade will begin their first Social Studies unit on Geography this week. We will be looking at how to read a variety of maps and how to look at various themes in Geography. We will have a pretest next week to see where we are starting. The class is enthusiastic and can't wait to start!
Miscellaneous Notes
- Cell Phone Policy - As many of you may know, students are not allowed cell phones during the school day. If they bring their phones to school, they must be dropped off in the office with Mrs. Fisher.
- International Day - We are planning another International Day! The date HAS NOT been finalized. Please let me know of anyone that would like to represent their country or culture at our International Day!
