Dr. Hector P. Garcia Middle School ~ Northside ISD

May 14-18, 2018

What an exciting week we had at the Gladiator Empire!

Our Algebra students took the STAAR End of Course Exam on Monday and got their first high school testing requirement out of the way. Results will be delivered in June. Parents will be able to access them on the Texas Assessment Management System: http://texasassessment.com/

Monday evening we had our annual NJHS (National Junior Honor Society) induction ceremony! We inducted 147 students, so we held the event at Brandeis High School to accommodate everyone. We honored 17 students that completed over 100 community service hours. Having too many students to hold the event at Garcia is a good problem to have! Congratulations to all the new inductees!

May 2 and 9 we held our Gladiator Camp where we welcomed our future 6th graders to the campus. For the 2 day event, we had 500 fifth graders learn about being a Gladiator. Our goal is to help the students and parents make an easy transition from elementary to middle school! The smiles on their faces indicated they had a good time. It was nice to see them making new connections with students from other schools.

Wednesday morning our students that had perfect attendance during the last grading period were rewarded with a doughnut! Thank you for ensuring your child attends school on a regular basis. Attendance matters!

Thursday our PTA parents honored our teachers with a delicious luncheon and quite a few door prizes! We appreciated the donations from the community and kind gestures expressed to our teachers for teacher appreciation week. The desserts were a sweet way to end the week too, thank you!

Next week will be STAAR testing. The campus will be closed for lunch deliveries due to students eating at different times. Students are able to wear their PE shorts on Monday and Tuesday.
